Tide Stain Stick
I am working on the June pattern by Vicki Hastings from Cross Eyed Cricket and it has a lot of white thread cross stitches. I noticed there is one stitch that looks dirty and really stands out from the rest. I was thinking I could use a stain stick on it, but was a little bit leery in case it bleached out the other white stitches next to it. Has anyone ever tried it? I do not usually wash my projects since I think you loose the sheen from the thread when you do that.

If you can't remove it, would stitching over it in white hide it?

I wouldn't use the stain stick. I would first try just using a little bit of water and a gentle rub.
If it really bothers you try and undo a few stitches and then re-stitch. Ask someone else if that spot is obvious to them. May be your imagination.

I have never tried any commercial stain sticks on a blemished stitch but maybe other stitchers here have, so we'll see what the other stitchers have to say about doing this. I have read that you could try a little lemon juice on a Q-Tip and apply it just to the blemished stitch to see if it pulls out the stain since it is white and lemon juice has a bleaching effect, but sometimes the discoloration is in the thread itself (I have not seen this discoloration happen in the thread but once in a great while if you use DMC floss) where it may not have taken dye so if that is the case, it is not likely that anything will change the color of the dye-less thread.

I think I'm going to pull out the stitches in that row and redo. Sounds like the safest thing to do and yes I am sure it is my imagination, I'm a little OCD.

I'm with you, Bones! OCD' S UNITE! :) When in doubt, replace or re-do it! You know it is going to niggle at you till you do! LOL It's probably why you always do the white last! :)

I agree... pull out stitches. And it may be your OCD.... I have it too. I can still spot the 2 stitches I fouled up on my mom's pillow-top in high school in 1970!

Bones, I am with the other stitchers. If something is that apparent, I would just re stitch it. I am not squeamish about many things in this world, but the word "cross stitch" and "stain stick" in the same sentence don't work for me!!!!
