dmc floss
Hey Ladies! It's been a long time since I was here asking for advice on this xstitch project!!!! Ya know what?, I haven't touched it yet And it was back in mid 2015 when I first asked for advice.... I have some new questions to ask..these questions are why I haven't started yet....I'd like to change some of the colors on the cat portion. The cat I want to do this for is my baby who past. The fluffiness and the color pattern looks very much like him. Except, He was mostly white, off-white and black. I thought about changing out the brownish color on his face for black. Then I thought I could use some of the brown and mix it with black or charcoal. Then I thought that I might be able to use 2 strands of color to blend in a little better. Then I thought, well that would give it a '3-D' kinda look. I think I like that Thought. It's 14 ct. I also read somewhere, maybe here, that the DMC threads have gotten a little thinner and some stitcher's were already using double threads of the DMC threads. It seemed when using only the one thread, the canvas would show thru. I know what I want the work to look like, but, I'm afraid I'll mess it up. So, I'm coming back to you fine ladies and gents. I really would like the '3-D' affect for his face and beard and keep the rest as is. I also would like to NOT do so much of the background and let the canvas show around the face and body. I have bought several different colors of canvases. I wonder if I did the xstitch in a smaller stitch such as a 16 or 18 ct. How do you think the picture would look if I were to do that? If I do that, then I would only use the one strand. I really want to get started on this, so, any help you can give me to get me going would be graciously appreciated!!! I need all the advice I can get!! My biggest problem is I'm afraid I'm going to mess it up and I want it to be perfect!! (Hopeful intentions!!) Thanx again, Jedzia (I hope the picture is still showing so you can take a gander at it :)

It's always hard to get used to a new web-site....I try to be patient and slow the first couple times to make sure I'm getting what I need and want.

In the item description it does list all the DMC fibers. I tried it, and when I checked the "check all" button and then added it to my cart, I had 63 items! and that was excluding fabric!!! You'd have had to scroll down the fiber list to see them all, and some colors require more than on skein. Double check your order. If not good, call or e-mail customer service directly.

It's a beautiful picture. My farm has lots of these tabbies, some short-haired and many long-haired.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. You will get lots of advice.

Can I assume that you do have some cross stitch experience. If so, you will probably have some of the floss colors in your stash.

If you are using 14 ct fabric you needed a piece that was 17 x 20 inches. If you ordered from this site you received a standard pre-cut piece that was already cut. If you didn't get enough floss you may have only checked the visible choices of colors instead of scrolling all the way down that section. There is a box on the bottom where you can check that you want all the colors. The description I just saw says that you need 60 different colors.

Welcome to our little group. We are very helpful. Ask a questions and you will get at least three opinions. You can decide what works best for you.

Keep us posted on your progress

Hello,

I have double checked the supply list for this pattern and what we have listed in the supply list online is correct. There are about 60 colors needed for this design. Make sure you are scrolling down in the supply list box that is underneath the picture of the pattern so you can see all of the flosses. The only colors that require 2 skeins of floss are 3371 and 3857. Other than that, all of the other flosses just need 1 skein. I hope this helps :) Thank you!

Jedzia welcome to the ECS chat room. Any time you have a question feel free to come here and ask for help. We are all friends here and love to help others especially new stitchers. Though I have been stitching for over 30 years I still learn a lot of new things from everyone here. Come back often and let us know what you are working on.

As you get to stitching more projects you will build up your stash of floss. Most of us here use only DMC floss, and that is what most patterns call for.
