fabric
It has been many years since I completed a cross stitch. Which fabric would be best for this pattern? Is there one that will make a nicer finished product?

Hi there.

If you click on the pictrue of the cross stitch that you choose as this one you see 5 stitch count fabric. Choose what you like. Have fun.

She is not asking about sizes with different fabric counts, which is provided on the item page. She wants opinions. What I would say, is to look at those sizes. Remember that the higher the count, the smaller the picture, until to get to a count n overv18, because those are often done with either one stitch over one square in the fabric or one/two thread stitches over one/two squares. So, 28 count can be the same size as 14 count if you go over two fabric squares on the 28 count.

The higher the count, the more stitches to the inch. So, 14 count has 14 stitches to the inch, but 28 has 28.
It truly is personal preference. Look at the fabrics, even if you have to go to n a store. Pick a fabric where you can see the holes easily, or the squares without a magnifier. It is easier and therefore happier. I now stitch on 16 count as I can't see the higher counts well in my old age and hate magnifying...have tried every kind on the market.

I always look at our bed sheets and marvel at 1000-1200 stitches per inch. I must be really old!

Su Pitt has given you a really good description of the differences in fabrics. The only thing I would add is remember to add 3 inches per side when you purchase your fabric. This adds a total of 6 inches extra to the width and 6 inches to the length. With this extra fabric you will have enough fabric to frame your finished project. Enjoy your stitching. It is a great hobby.
