The cloth color & count #18.
I was wondering if anyone would give me there opinion on this project : NEW YORK LIGHTS.
I bought a chart, not a kit ( wish i could of, anyway they say to use the color white aida. I was thinking, steering into all of those colors of buying a color on the colors of the color colors of a an " ARMY " color, which they have. In my HEART, I really keeping going to those colors, rather than the white aida. I've been proscrating on those colors theme, rather than the white. So could you take a look the " ARMY ", sage, avocado, etc. colors & let me know what you think. Your opinion will be appreciated. Also they selected size 18 ct., but my eyes are getting alittle old now, I sometimes have trouble seeing the holes, so which do think on the count 14, 16, 18 ct. ?

Hi Joann2935,
First, really love the pattern! It will be astonishing when completed!
As for fabric color, I would suggest that if you are going to get a darker FABRIC to do the pattern on, you keep in mind that the two strobe lights beaming skyward AND the light areas such as the windows of the buildings and the light color of the top of the building to the upper right might be a problem when it comes to the FABRIC color showing through the light floss you will be using for those areas.
I would look for a very pale fabric in the green or sand colors if you do not want to work the white aida.
I work with 28 count fabric almost consistently when I stitch, so I'm a bit prejudice about fabric count.
I would suggest 18 count but you need to choose the fabric count that isn't going to give you headaches from eyestrain every time you stitch!

Joann - First of all, you DO NOT have to use the suggested color. I don't think that the white is a good choice. I would recommend off-white, ivory or possibly ecru. You can switch to 14 ct. Don't forget, if you change the count, you have to change the amount of fabric you buy. I would figure it out for you but I am cusing a computer in a hotel lobby and it is very slow and I don't want to switch back to a different page. I'm in the lobby because my husband is sound asleep and I am wide awake.

There are no rules -- only suggestions. Sometimes the pattern makers give bad advice. I frequently change the fabric or choice of floss colors I cannot remember the last time I followed a pattern 100% That includes some patterns that only used one color of floss

The cross stitch police will not come looking for you

You can use a 14 count or a 16 count Aida. On 16 count, the design will be about 12" x 17.5". On 14 count, it will be about 13.5" x 20.5".

I like the idea of a light green/khaki color. You may need more floss than they call for too.

Thank you all for all of your opinions & suggestions on what... color... cloth... color... to use on my new project NEW YORK LIGHTS. They all are good suggestions. so I'll have to make up mind, & do it soon. I saw some other person posting a different question. She asked about dying the fabric, , but I saw the tye dyed fabrics so now I'm thinking about that. I'm not sure if it comes in the size cloth I would need.all so that made me think about that idea. Someone suggested dying the fabric. But unfortunately, so now I'm really confused as to what to do. I now have 4 or 5 different choices to take.
With me, having Bipolar & taking 16 pills a day, it is really....hard to make up my mind, as what to choose. ( I THINK IT COMES ALONG WITH ME, SO...MUCH FUN ). I have THREE carts full with items for around $ 2500. & up. But I can't make up my mind, so evently my carts get empty , it's so frustrating. I will will ask my husband tonight about what he thinks. So could you give me your opinion about me dying the fabric & or their MARBLED CHOICES, BUT THE FABRIC SIZE WORKING ?
Thank you for all of your prompt replies, it is all very much appreciated. So I'm hoping to make my choice by tomorrow Wednesday.
Sincerely, Joann

I was just showing & talking to my husband about the color of the fabric. He was saying if I'm looking for less stitching, to do it on BLACK FABRIC. Could you give me some input what you think of actually stitching ON BLACK FABRIC ? I originally wasn't thinking down the road of doing less stitches, so could you give me some input as to what he was saying? Oh yeah one more thing what do you think if I would do those areas in just half cross stitches, no full cross stitches ? His reasoning on that is that the PRIMARY COLOR ON THE BOTTOM STITCHES ARE BLACK, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, it's driving me NUTS !!!!!

JOANN -- you are making yourself crazy. You asked a question. You received a bunch of answers. We would all do this project differently. None of us can give you the right answer for you. SORRY

Boy, I , no sooner posted my question & YOU JUST JUMPED ON IN GIVING ME AN ANSWER / REPLY ON MY QUESTION. YOU SHOULD GET YOURSELF ANOTHER HOBBY OTHER THAN SITTING ON YOUR COMPUTER, & WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO POST A QUESTION & CROSS STITCHING. YOUR REPLY CAME OFF AS VERY CURT & ANNOYED. You actually gave me a reply within the last week or so. I DID SEE WHEN YOU POSTED YOUR REMARK/ANSWER RIGHT AFTER I POSTED IT. I was STILL ON MY COMPUTER WHEN YOU REPLIED, IT WAS ONLY WITHIN A SHORT TIME, MINUTES, FRAME. I DID READ IT BUT I HAD TO DO SOMETHING ELSE, SO I COULDN'T REPLY TO IT RIGHT THEN & THERE OR I WOULD HAVE. RIGHT NOW... I'M JUST GOING TO SIT ON THIS & THINK ABOUT WHAT I'M GOING TO DO,
IN MY OPINION YOU SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE ON THEIR WEBSITE & " CHAT " . WE WILL SEE WHAT COMES DOWN THE LINE. NO ONE EVER TREATED / EMAILED, ETC., EVER BEFORE, YOU. MAYBE YOU SHOULD TAKE A COUPLE OF XANAX & GET ON INTO BED FOR THE NIGHT. I HOPE YOUR BETTER TOMORROW, ON THURS. JULY 9, 15.

Wow! Talk about somebody needing a Xanax. Shame on you, Joann! Nancy was only trying to calm you down so you could think clearly. Half-stitches on black? Not enough coverage...and you said you can't see well enough for 18 ct, but you are switching to black....maybe Librium is more in order.

I am not the only one that thought it was curt & nasty. Lat night when I got back on the computer & read what she said. I just asked my husband to look at my replies as to what people thought. Right after he read them all, he made a comment as to what & how she wrote. I didn't let him know how or what I was thinking. When he was done reading them all, he said boy, I'm surprised that someone would be that much annoyed to answer you that way & she needs to take a chill pill. And again he didn't know what I was thinking & how I took her reply, he had no idea what so ever.

Joann, I think this is a big misunderstanding. Nancye has been contributing for quite some time. She is always providing helpful answers and has never been rude. Sorry that you took it that way. We all have our unique way of communicating and sometimes it takes a little while to get used to all the different personalities and style of communication. She was only trying to help. black would be a terrible color for you to work with if you have problems with your eyesight. Of course, that is a personal choice. I don't know what your patterns looks like but if the entire fabric is covered then it matters little which color you choose. 14 or 16 count would be easier than 18 ct to stitch on. Good luck and please don't throw around advice about what medications people should be on. That is very unkind and offensive.
