If you run the gold metallic thread through thread conditioner just before you stitch with it (thread heaven is one, but there are others) it is MUCH easier to work with. Some people dampen it, but I think thread conditioner does a much better job and lasts longer.

gardenpg, I used the 284Z when I made Santa of the Forest. His wooden staff had a great deal of this metallic thread in it. I also found it VERY difficult to use. It has now been "upgraded" to something softer and more pliable. The number is 284ZA. I have used it as well and with better success. If you go the "Told in a Garden" website, you will find a posting where it says basically: What is 284Z and what can replace it? I will admit...it is a very nice shade of gold.
