Christmas gifts
I guess it's time to do my gift stitching. I'm thinking about making four stockings that are not difficult, nor will they take very long. They look really nice, though. They are for my sister and her family. My sister spoke to me for the first time in 11 years. She loves handmade things. Part of me wants to reward her for being civil. Part of me wants to just write her off since she's been so rude to me for eleven frickin years.

I also want to stitch a more complicated stocking for me and my collection. These are the Cross Stitch & Country Crafts stockings from the 80s and 90s. I don't want to show them because they are so fabulous but out of print note and I'm not willing to make copies.

SIMON -- Congratulations at the attempted reconciliation. Not an easy thing to do. Both of you need to try not to let past issues fester. Keep communication open.

My husband has not spoke to his brother in three years. I had a bad relationship with one of my sisters who is now deceased. She was a very unhappy person and the situation was never resolved. Lucky for me I have another sister and we have a wonderful relationship. Lives in Michigan and I am in Missouri so we don't see each other. Thank goodness for free phone minutes and email.

wishing you good thoughts

simon, you are a kind person. Stitching four Christmas stockings for someone that you had issues with in the past is a very generous undertaking. I also have stitched stockings for extended family and am sick, sick, sick of them. Never again. Most people just don't appreciate handmade gifts or don't properly care for them.

Have you thought of renting your patterns out? LOL

Now I'm hoping my sister wants the angel instead, lol, because it's already stitched. I'm remembering how much I love working on 25-count Lugana, and want to work one of the more elaborate stockings for my mother-in-law. She saw me preparing the kitchen stocking, which I was going to work for myself this year, but she really liked it. I can still do the simple stockings for my sister, they're quick and easy.

Sounds like your sister is trying to open up communication with you...
What a nice thought for you to cross stitch something for her for Xmas! It's also a good way to "break the ice" in communication by talking with her about the project you've made. BUT only you can be the one to decide how and when you want to communicate with her....

Simon I know what you mean about the Cross Stitch and Country Craft Christmas stockings. I had the hardbound copy of the book where they were all in many years ago, but lost it somewhere. I do still have a few that I got from the individual magazines from back then. I always subscribed to that magazine. It was the best one out there. It is a shame it went out of print. Luckily I saved many of my favorite patterns from it including "Amid Amish Life" which is still my very favorite pattern. After all these years that pattern is starting to get a little yellow.

Enjoy your stitching.
