Kit
How long is the included ornament kit hanger?? I'd like to make as a necklace for a 5 year old. Thanks!

Very cute idea! ...info shows 2.75x2" and it looks wider than tall...

Thanks VCESS, but I'm talking about the "hanger" length. Guess it's too short for a necklace, but would like to hear from Everything CrossStitch.

For Heaven's Sake, we're talking about $0.50 per foot cord at JoAnn's. Why would you think an ornament might have a cord long enough for a little girl's necklace?

Linda, if you want to hear from Everything CrossStitch perhaps you should ask Customer Service instead of asking stitchers in the stitcher's chat room.

Sunshine, she probably hit the tab on the product page...it brings her straight to us...just like the shoot at the funhouse. :) I just chimed in cause I thought it a cute idea...still do. :)

VCESS -- well, I might as well add my two cents also. If it is a kit Kristi might not know the answer. Guess we will have to wait until tomorrow. By the way, I love the little pumpkin charm.

I thought about it...often. :) of course, I also thought of shaving their heads, but they were too old to wear something like this...with their big mouths, it would have been more of a choking hazard for a teen... it's a joke! LOL

The kids FIVE...not a toddler...but if you guys think it's too dangerous, I bow to your better judgement. :)

I don't have kids but I work with them, so I see many different personalities all at one time. Two years ago, I substitute taught in art for about 4 weeks straight. I did a collage-type pattern for all grades. I had two different projects going. K-1 did a simple color/cut/paste autumn-themed project. I let grades 2-5 use whatever materials I pulled out to do a collage of their names. Some of my upper-level kids decided they wanted to use yarn/string/colored cord to make hangers for their collage posters. For the most part, I was fine with that, but I did "threaten" them about putting it around their necks, especially the kids that rode on the bus in the afternoons. As far as I know, no one had problems with that. I never heard from any other teachers.

The K-1st graders never had opportunity to use string, etc. but I certainly know there are some kids from that age group, that I absolutely would never have allowed to put something around their neck...not with me at school anyway. Some of these kids were just learning basic life/social skills at 5 years old. There were a few, though, that probably would've been okay using it. It absolutely would've depended on the child.

Since the necklace idea could be problematic, would a pin attachment be safe. Since this is perforated paper, I know they sell self-stick pin attachments (used to attach name tags, etc., to your clothing) at Michaels and other hobby stores. I had seen them there some time ago. Then just put self-stick felt around the pin attachment and over the back to conceal the stitching to finish. Just an alternative idea, but I do not have children and do not recall having all of these worries when I was growing up. It is very sad there is so much to worry about now as a parent trying to raise and protect your children from harm.

The pin idea may be better for the 5 yr old...but the survival of the human race has pretty much depended on the survival instinct of children. :) by 6, most kids are pretty savvy, and a cautionary warning might be plenty...probably get the eye-roll. :) I might make this for ME! First little girl who admires it, receives it...with Mom's approval, of course. :)

Texas Stitcher, so good to hear from you! And the shaving of the head idea was my alternative fantasy to the death penalty...sometimes an infamous death didn't seem much of a deterrent! Ahhh, the nightmare days... :)
