Wanting to do this for my cat crazy husband for next year. Has anyone done a stocking before? This would be my first time attempting one and any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Anything really that will help. Main concern is what material I should work with. I usually do 14 ct aida. I'd prefer to find a stocking that i can just stitch the pattern onto.

I'd say I'm intermediate. I've been stitching for a few years but nothing more than the occasional kit now and then. Im in Ontario Canada and the only real cross stitching business is 3 hours away. Im not looking for something too complicated so I might just wait until I'm more experienced before doing the stocking. I am just now starting to really do more and more projects as i have two nieces and a nephew that I've done birth records for, and now I'm just seeing more and more beautiful projects I'm wanting to complete, so much i think i might have a bit of an addiction to this site and my wishlist is easily 5 pages long, lol.

Oh in that case, then yeah, my mother who lives in the states can sew and i see her a lot more often then I go to the crafting store, lol. I might still wait a while to gain more experience but I really appreciate the advice.

I have done several stockings over the years. My best advice is to stitch a liner for the stocking out of a cute Christmas fabric. These may be in the fabric stores by now...I remember when no Christmas items were in any stores until the day after Thanksgiving! Now they coincide with back-to-school things, pre-Halloween! Be sure when you sew it that the liner fabric is right side showing on the inside of the stocking! I get fancy and add a braiding to the outside edhes because they look si finished. The extra fabric of the liner is worth it, as it keeps any stocking gifts (like candy, tangerine, or even batteries) from staining the beautiful stitching! I always add beads to make them sparkle!
