Changing thread colors
I have a pattern that I like but want to use a different palette of colors.
Does anyone know how to substitute another color and still get the same shading? Thanks!

Hi there

Try to get the colors as close as the one which you want to substitute. That all what I can tell you.

The answer to your question is YES, there is such a thing. I am 95% certain I have seen it. Thought I had it in my computer but can't find it.

If you go to the DMC site you will find a listing of DMC colors by families,

Maybe this will help you

I did this once. I went to my crossstitch store, found the material I wanted to use and pulled the original colors. I layed the original colors on the material. I then pulled the colors I thought I wanted to use and began comparing them to the original colors. If I had a dark blue as an original color, I tried to get a dark color of my choice that matched the shade or hue of the original color, etc. I did the same for all of the colors of my choice comparing them to the original. The project came out fine. I hope you understand what I have written. I am sure thatothers on this chat can help you also. Good Luck! Linda

lkgrahm -- I just got back on to try to clarify what I said. You said it better. Take a section of blues and compare it to a section of greens or oranges or reds, etc.

Just followed NancyG's advice and went to the DMC USA website. What a wealth of information! I had no idea that there was a listing of DMC thread by color families. Several times I've thought about modifying the colors into something that I would like better but couldn't think of a simple/easy (keyword easy) way to do it. These charts are just the ticket.
