Kreinik Metalics
I am 3/4 through this piece and love it. I would, however, recommend using #4 Kreinik thread instead of #8 on 16 or 18 count fabric. It lays nicer and works easier. I did use #8 on the wand he's holding to make it stand out. It's just a bear to work through the fabric.

Wonderful! I love Santa's!

Larger needle didn't help?

I think a larger needle would have made it worse. The problem was getting the 'cable' through the fabric. I almost felt I would shred the fabric as I pulled it through. I was so frustrated with the #8 that I put the project away for a year. I've done other Mirabilia projects over the years and loved every one.

Wonder if "couching" #8 would work? You could use a Sulkey Rayon or RG Petite Braid, both shiny & thin.

VCESS - I bow to your knowledge!! The larger needle made a big difference. Any suggestions about working with fuzzy whisper? I've been keeping to a 10" piece, anything longer shreds before I finish with it.

Is that the stuff by Rainbow Gallery? I have never worked with it, but I think jlhewes has used it. Maybe momcat? Do a search of the chat using "fuzzy stuff" or "Rainbow Gallery"...it was a thread from quite a while ago. The search box is at the top of the threads, on the first page of Chit Chat.

About the only things I remember are Rainbow Gallery and short lengths... :)

Glad to be of help! :) Just spouting what I've read on here... :) very surprised lots of folk didn't speak up! :)

Be sure and post a picture when you are done! This sounds wonderful and sooooo interesting! :)

Yes, this is a rainbow product. It's like stitching with the mohair thread we used to wrap our boyfriend's rings with in high school. Boy, that sure dated me, didn't it. I'm to the point with the picture where I'm going to have to switch to a frame instead of hoop. I hope to be done by Christmas.

Oh, I thought you were talking of Kreinik #4 & # 8 metallic braid. Rainbow galleries Wisper is mohair & it's tough to work. I use short lengths then brush it with a little wire brush, & trim it with straight embroidery scissors.

Josu, what kind of frame are you switching to? I have ordered the stuff for the headless horseman...have never beaded anything larger than 7x7. Don't really want to use a hoop or scroll frame over finished metallic stitches or beading, but was wondering if that's how you proceed...just being very careful of completed stitches and beading. Is it better to finish beading and metallic without a frame or hoop? :)

I use a scroll frame. After finishing all the metallic and DMC I start on the beading. I had to be very careful when propping the frame while working so it didn't rub the finished beading. The Kreinik is very strong and wasn't an issue. I work the beading with a thread that matches the linen. I haven't tried the invisible thread. I also knot every inch or so before continuing on just in case something breaks free. I freely admit that beading isn't my favorite thing. I'm going to play with the frame to see if I can't roll the finished work in on itself. Joanne (josu2849@yahoo.com)
