2014 Schooler Santa
I'm working last year's Santa on 18 ct. Davros and I'm not crazy about the results. I'd like to know if people are using 2 or 3 strands of thread. I'm using 3 and wonder if that could be the problem.

You are doing good job if you are using 2 strands of floss for the 18 count fabric. I would stay as I am and continue doing it to finishing. Have fun.

Usually, you woukd use 2 strands with 18 count.

Thank you both. I was using 3 strands and I will finish the solid parts that way and follow the rest of the items as directed. No where on the piece did it tell me how many strands and I haven't worked a Schooler Santa for a couple of years.

I appreciate the replies.

I didn't quite understand your question. You said that you were unhappy with the coverage using three strands. Were you unhappy because it didn't cover well or were you unhappy because it puckered and didn't lay right? If it was the latter, by all means, only use two strands

Hi Nancy, neither case ... using 3 strands just seemed like overkill but I was too far invested in the project before I noticed.

I'm going to make another using just two strands and see if I'm happier.

I mainly had problem with there being too much thread and the squares of the Davros would almost disappear if I was working between colors.

What do you use when working a Schooler Santa?

Based on your question I gave my reply on stitching on 18 ct fabric only . You didn't mention specialty threads and beads. That is a topic that I can't give an opinion because I don't use it.

Thanks fine, thank you. I have the appropriate needles and threads for beads, there are none on this project although, in place of the stitched buttons, my friend used regular very tiny black buttons, I plan to do the same.

Thanks again for everyone's input.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
