MISS C -- A JEWISH PATTERN
This is a link for a dreidel applique that I received from the Sew Jewish website. I think I sent you information about the site a few months ago.

FOR EVERYONE ELSE

A dreidle is a wooden/plastic/metal top that Jewish children (and some adults). It is four sided with the , Hebrew letters.. NUN, GIMMBEL, HEY SHIN. The letters stand for words which in English translate into "A Great Miracle Happened There.

Players spin the top and based on the letter either put in or take out tokens (candy, ships, coins, etc)

In Israel the Shin is replaced with a PEY. The translation is A GREAT MIRACLE HAPPENED HERE.

I just came across a pattern for a bag to hold the dreidels if anyone is interested.

I'm finished organizing except for the bead. I picked up a container a couple of months ago. It won't happen today. I plan to work on a WIP and watch the weather channel. DD and Olivia are baking cookies. The girl loves chocolate chip cookies so much. I hope that they'll bring some over. :)
I'm done for December. I filled out all the birthday cards and ordered my son's birthday gift. Great feeling!

TEXAS - Please send me that pattern when you mail the other stuff. I have some Chanukah fabric in my stash that I need something to do with

A dreidel is like a playing top. Hanukkah will be here soon it is almost a week from today. So Mrs Nancy and other Jewish ladies from the chat prepare your Manorah and the candles plus the matches for it. It is from the 6 to the 14 of December. Happy Hanukkah ladies and more to come for us to get our land back from the Palestinians.

No problem, Nancye. It is stitched on Lugana - a lovely light blue. I have fabric but don't know if you want to stitch on Lugana? It's easy and fun once you get used to stitching over 2. And it's large enough to see without eyestrain.

Nancye, it's the gelt bag and has the four dreidl symbols stitched on it. I looked again just to be sure. Will include it. It looks gorgeous.

Maybe you ladies would be the ones to ask, as I've always wondered. What is the difference (or is there?) between Chanukah and Hanukkah? I know it's the same thing, but why the different spelling? Does it mean something different or is it spelled differently depending on what region you are from? I hope this isn't offensive by asking, but I've always been curious. I'm just looking for some education :)

zzstarzz21, I would like to ask a question also. I do not mean to be offensive in any way, but I have always wondered how the men keep the little hats on. Why don't they fall off when they bend over or when the wind blows?

The kippah is secured with clips. Some have combs sewn into them. Or nothing at all is used, it just stays on like any other hat.

MISS C -- You are entitled to an opinion What do the Palestinians have to do with Chanukah.

I just read Miss C's comment! I am not even touching this one. We all know where our sympathies lie but this is too hot a topic and this is not the proper forum.

You go, Miss C!
