Did not expect paper or beads
I could not tell from the website, but the backing they send you is actually brown paper (not fabric). Also, there are a bizzillion beads involved with this. What I thought would be a quick, fun project I could do while watching TV is actually quite a bit more complicated than I thought when I bought it initially.

Good thing it's only 5 x 5. Embroidering pillowcases or tablecloths is kind of easy when watching tv.

This is the description of your kit and you were surprised?

Harvest Home Buttons & Beads Counted Cross Stitch Kit-5"X5". Includes beads, ceramic button, perforated paper, needles, floss, chart and instructions.

Hi. I think you are new to the chat. I'm not criticizing, but, I was going to ask the same question as Sunshine but was interrupted. I'm wondering if Kristi had listed the description and you missed it. One thing I have learned just by joining this Chat is that Mill Hill kits usually include beads.

Hope you will become a regular member. Participants are not employees of Everything Cross stitch. Members just like to visit and exchange ideas, ask advice and give it.

I hope that you will be happy with your project

Hi.
It's a Mill Hill kit. I have some of these kits (haven't started one yet) but decided to "trade out" the perforated paper with a 28-count fabric instead. Will use the beads and buttons that come with it.

But I gotta agree, that brown paper thing is just...disappointing. Do as Bermuda suggested, trade it for 14 ct aida...errr...28 ct linen, or evenweave. :)

I guess what I should have said is that I did not expect as many beads as came with it. That's a good tip to use 14 ct Aida (or 28 ct linen) instead of the paper. And no, I've never chit chatted before.

Welcome Jess! And happy holidays to you!
I didn't like the idea of the perforated paper that comes with these kits! But see, there is a way around it! I've read reviews of stitchers that have done this Mill Hill Kits and most stitchers enjoy doing them.
I read one stitcher's review that stated she did NOT like doing all the beads that came with the kit she purchased. SOOO, she just stitched the beads on her project she wanted to use and put the additional beads she decided not to use away for a rainy day!
