I believe so. According to the description, this is just the pattern, not a kit. You will need to buy the fabric, backing, etc. I am NOT an employee of Everything CrossStitch but one of the stitchers on this "chat" that saw your question.
Kristi, who does work for ECS will probably see your question and give you further information about it since she does come onto the "chat" to assist her customers.

I have this pattern in my stash because it is so cute. I bought a couple other stocking patterns like this, so I can sew more than one.
Happy Holidays to you! :)

since it is a cross stitch pattern. Do instructions come with it for making the stocking back and trim, ie. how much material to purchase and instructions for putting the stocking together?

daugherty55: I suggest that you e-mail Everything Cross Stitch or call them. They are closed on weekends but if you want to leave them an e-mail it is: sales@everythingcrossstitch.com
Their phone number is: 1-800-800-8517 if you want to call them on Monday.
I don't know if the directions on how to put the stocking together, or the type of fabric and materials are listed with the chart when you buy it. I won't guess at something if I don't know the answer because I don't want to give you inaccurate information.
Their customer service dept. is really good at getting back with people. Kristi, who works for ECS, does monitor this "chat" so you may very well get a "chat" from her to answer your questions. I am NOT an employee of Everything Cross Stitch, but a stitcher that talks with other stitchers on this chat.
Feel free to join us on this "Chat" messageboard. I'm an experienced stitcher but I have learned a lot of good ideas and tips regarding counted cross stitching on this messageboard.

Yes, it does. You have to purchase the pattern, fabric and floss separately. It can be stitched with overdyed floss or DMC. I have done both and both turned out really nice. There are, I believe 6 stockings in this series and I have stitched them all several times over the last three years for friends, etc.
You also have to purchase lining, backing, cord and whatever you choose to add. You can get these materials at JoAnn's or any store that sells fabric. I purchased a stocking several years ago, took it apart and use it as a pattern. You can also do research on having it done professionally. I believe Scarlet Quince offered this service.

If you know the basics of sewing you won't have a problem.

Good luck.
