CRAFT GLOVES
has anyone tried stitching using the craft gloves that are supposed to alleviate wrist and thumb pain. I have a soft splint that I wear when I am not stitching. It helps alleviate the pain. However when I take it off to type or stitch my wrist starts hurting again. The obvious solution is to stop stitching. Can't do that until I use up my stash. I will be discussing this on my next visit to the doctor.

I use my stitchers compression gloves everytime I stitch. I started using them when the stiffness in my hands from stitching didn't go away by morning. (I probably have arthritis). Anyway, they help a lot. I don't use a hoop so I find more stiffness in my "holding" hand than my needle hand. I got mine at Joanns, and they seem to work well enough. (Kind of like a girdle for the hands!)

I use mine religiously and have for years. I, too, purchased mine at Joanns although I have seen them in some of the needlework catalogs. I just checked this site and ECS doesn't seem to carry them (or calls them something else). Maybe, if enough of us ask for them, Kristi will order them to carry.

I also keep mine on when I'm typiing or doing other repetitive type of things that could cause carpal tunnel problems (where the nerves in your wrist get compressed).

Keepsakeneedlearts.com and herrschners.com also carry them I think.

I used mine for a while before I retired and after a severe wrist injury, but I didn't cross stitch for years and eventually they disappeared...think I gave them to my mom. Lately, I tought of getting another pair but I do arm, shoulder, neck, and hand stretches before and after stitching bouts...sometimes I do them during a bout if it is a long bout, which I seldom get to do. :) For me, sitting under an AC vent sometimes makes joints touchier. Anyway...I've not heard anyone complaining about their use...except for one nut who complained they made her too hot. :) Shorter stitch times might help...stop before the aches actually start. When I was taking Aleve everyday, I think everything felt better...they took me off for the surgery and won't allow my return to it, yet. :( Unless they have suffered some sort of wrist/hand injury, it's been my experience that you get little sympathy...but I think it's worse than teeth or foot pain. I suggest you consider a hand specialist...choose carefully, there are so many quacks! I'm not a fan of surgery...they can do a LOT with physical therapy and some rest...they might insist on a temporary rest, but mostly it is not losing any more dexterity and mobility...I really don't care for braces for long-time use, too restrictive, but useful to aid in repairing and healing. :) it would be a shame to have to give up stitching entirely, but we're here for you, if you need us...stitching or not. I hope you find something that soothes your pain soon! :)

Sorry for the rambling blah, blah, blah...

Interesting. Never heard of craft gloves but there are many things I have never heard of I am sure. I would probably be one of those nuts that get hot wearing them! Everything makes me hot. I had surgery on my hand many years ago and they gave me a splint to wear that lasted one afternoon. I had to take the silly thing off every time I washed my hands or had something to do that involved water. My hand hurts when I overdo it but I learned to live with it. My friend has arthritis in her hands and takes Tylenol something or other. The doc told her to soak her hands in warm water with Epsom salts.
Gotta run, more later.

"Soaking" makes me anxious...I'm always thinking of what I would rather be doing, like telling a doctor who told me to soak whatever, to soak his head. :) I love being irreverent to the gods of medicine....there are so many in my life these days! :)
