OH DEAR...DIMENSIONS AGAIN, ONLY WORSE!!!
Totally bummed out and ashamed.
OK, OK, I must admit that all three granddaughters are pregnant! I wanted to do birth announcements for all three. Got two done, but they were Janlynn kits. You know me well enough to know that it is VERY seldom that I buy a kit, but the rush was on for one of the girls, as she is due in August. Then, I realized that no granddaughter had never gotten one for their first born child, as we did not know them until all who were adopted out of the family found us via facebook, so I added doing announcements for their previous children (who, having raised 3 kids myself, would be asking why great-grandma didn't make one for them, or didn't she love us as much...and yes, I know I set myself up for failure by imposimg time limits and extra stitching on myself).
The first is done, with one extra for the older boy. They are both janlynn kits and I was very pleased that they use DMC, so I could add floss from my stash, since I prefer the coverage of 3 over 1 for the 14 count (all brands of kits use 14 count). I go to kit #3, a Dimensions kit, although I am very familiar with their not providing enough floss). Cannot supplement from my stash of DMC, as they utilize their own brand of floss. However, it is even worse than I thought...they recommend using just 1strand of floss for the 14 count fabric! I love thieir color choices, but feel that it would upset them if I asked for not two, but three times the floss they provide in the kit,

What to do. What to do? I thought about writing them a pleading lettter, but figure that they get lots of letters. I though about using 16 count, but even that smaller size overall will cause me to require more floss. So, head in hand (it is difficult to stitch in that position), I decided to do as told by Miss C (often) and substitute DMC for the kit floss. I have one of the DMC floss color guides from years ago that has the real floss in it). It may take a bit of time to frog what I have done and match the floss as close as I can, but it saves me both time and energy. Thank.God that I have a daylight lamp and a DH who is great with colors.
So, I have only five more to go by December...deciding that this is more important than the seven Christmas stockings that I had planned.

I promise solemnly that I will NEVER purchase another Dimensions kit ever! Never ever! I will use my huge stash of DMC floss as my "go to" floss (with the exception of WDW floss, as I have every color of theirs). RANT OVER. Sorry.

SU -- WHAT A WONDERFUL PROBLEM TO HAVE. Wishing yu a huge MAZEL TOV (Congratulations)!!!

I assume that you know that there are special patterns for adopted children.

Depending on how far along you are -- think about starting over again with new fabric and using the DMC flosses. Save the frogging to do in between this group of babies and the next round of precious great-grandchildren.

Make a list of the DMC colors you need and I will send you all of my my triplicate partial bobbins. I have lots!

Hahaha, Su, you sound like me. When the older grandkids were born I was still working and it didn't occur to me to make birth samplers. I began with some of more recent arrivals and worked my way backwards. The eldest was 24 I believe when I completed his. He is a real happy go lucky guy and was thrilled. One son has four kids and he and his wife claimed that they wanted the samplers. I didn't see a one when I was visiting them several years ago. I didn't want to ask. I had put so much work into each one. I had to modify some from German magazines because I couldn't find what I liked. This was before the internet provided such a wealth of resources and I wasn't always close to a shop. So don't stress, take your time and present them when they are done.
As to the other dilemma, don't frog now, order more fabric and stitch away. Frog later and use the fabric for something else. I cannot believe that Dimensions would recommend one strand for 14 ct. I'm not ordering any more kits. I still Maggie the Messmaker. GD wanted the kit when she was four. Now neither DD nor GD like the pattern any longer and I'm stuck with it. I already bought Lugana for it and was in the process of converting their floss to DMC. Oh well, somebody will get it as a birthday gift - unstitched of course. I see many kits but always apply the three day rule and, so far, common sense prevailed. I have lots of patterns, so if you need fabric (other than Aida), patterns or floss give me a shoutout.
Congratulations and the very best to moms and babies. You are so blessed.

Nancye and Tex!
As DH would be pleased to say, "For crying out loud (he never swears), don't ever/never send Su floss, fabric, or anything even remotely related to cross stitch!" My stash is out if control, he says. Thanks for youbr supportvand kind offers of help. I think next year, I might become totally crazex by this hobby.

Do you guys know that DMC has been making their floss for over a century and that it is made of long staple cotton (the best cotton) imported from Egypt? Trump would not approve of the non-American triple impirt (Egypt to France to the USA), but who cares about that? We are talking cross stitch stuff here!(

Well, in that case you can send me some of your DMC floss. LOLOL

According to a recent post from Miss C DMC has been marketing their floss for 250 years!

I knew it was over a cemtury, but was lazy in not eatching for a post that had the actual time span!
I am such a xs nut that I wrote to DMC in French, on their home site (not DMC-USA.com). I praised their cotton,.their dyers,.their workers, etc. It was addressed to.all.who work so hard to get DMC all over the world. And...you will have to pry my stash of DMC from my cold, dead hands, along with my dad's old Baby Colt pistol...only used to stave off stash stealers!

SU -- Just wondering. Did you get a response to the letter you sent to DMC in France?

Members of this Chat should make some kind of agreement that we leave our stashes to each other! Just think how much stuff the last one of us will have!!!

I only want DMC floss and 14ct fabric. The rest of the stuff can go to the next person on the list!!!!!LOLOLOL

I will add you to the list, Nancye! You know the old Chinese saying, "Be careful.what you wish for..."???
My dear dad used that as a warning to me, but in reality, he spoiled me rotten! LOL

Actually willing a stash wouldn't be a bad thing! I have NOBODY in my family to pick up the pieces if I were to suddenly part this earth. All my carefully collected craft supplies! Will they be tossed out? Dumped at a local Goodwill store? Or just allowed to sit and slowly rot away in an attic somewhere??

That's just so depressing:P

Anyways, I hope you do find a solution to your problem and Congrats on the babies!!!! :D

Edit: Oh, and on a variation of this, I love to quilt! My daughter once asked me just what am I going to do with all these I make. I just smiled and told her it was going to be HER problem as I'm going to leave all of them to her! She just looked at me :)

Who knows what they;ll do with our stuff. We won't know. DD will probably take some of the things that appeal to her and the rest will go to Goodwill or some such. I don't have that much. If GD's current behaviour is any indication then all of my stuff will end up in her room. I pray that she won't be a hoarder. She never had to share or part with anything in her little life and has all a child could ask for in every aspect yet she will not part with anything. Her little brain catalogs everything she owns. Distressing. Who can and wants to hold on to all this junk.
