Hi,
Cute pattern. Was this your first Mill Hill ornament? How was it working with the perforated paper?

Hi Bermuda. It is my first Mill Hill pattern done with beads. I have worked with perforated paper before. For me, as long as the project is small I'm good ( I have small hands) otherwise it's harder for me to hold larger pieces of paper.

It is nice! How did adding the beads go? I am planning on starting a Mill Hill project soon. Mill Hill has a lot of ornament kits! :)

Bermuda. I was quite nervous about attacking the beads. :) some are really tiny. I did rather well. If you plan on trying a bead kit, I say start with a small one so that you know what you're in for. :) you have to have a clear working station ( I managed to drop a few on the carpet. That wasn't a good idea. Next time I'll make sure that I have a big mat or plastic swimming pool :)

Lol! Sounds like I'm in for an experience. Thanks for the warning about the beads but you are talking to a person who is also planning on stitching a Leonid Afremov pattern that uses 240 colors next year:)

Wow!!!! & OMG!!!! That's alot of colors. Good luck with that!!!

Use a Tacky Bob when you use beads. It is like a small CD case with sticky sides on the inside and you stick your beads to it. Helps to keep your beads in place and not on the floor. When I do my Mill Hill ones (5x5) I have switched out the perforated paper for AIDA cloth. I am a little nervous to work on the paper too.

That's why I'm waiting till next year to start it. Stick around the chat so you can listen to me "cry in my beer" when I begin the project!! LOL!
Timcdaniel- Thanks for help regarding what to use to keep the beads under control, Can you find it at a craft store? Since you've more experience with the Mill Hill kits, any other suggestions? I will be using a 28-count evenweave fabric with a comparable color, going over two, because I want a bit more toughness of the fabric than the perforated paper.

Bermuda: They sell Tacky Bob right here at ECS for 8.99. The only other thing I found was helpful when doing Mill Hill was to use a larger hoop. I liked to have my entire stitch area in the hoop without having to move it. I used a 7" spring hoop so it all fit well. The 28 count will work the same as the 14 Aida I used on mine. Complete all stitching first and then go back and do the beads. The ones I have completed the bead a symbol on the pattern just like a stitch would be on a pattern. I tried to stitch all the alike beads at a time in one are to keep from changing thread all the time. I was very intimidated before doing my first one, now I find them very fun, easy and beautiful patterns. Which one will you be doing?

It's a toss-up but I'm leaning toward the Mill Hill kit "Country Church" or "St. Nicholas Cathedral" which are part of the Mill Hill "winter" series and part of the "Christmas Village" charts. Obviously I'm going to need magnification for the beads....:)
