That is a beautiful pattern. If you don't want to stitch the background you might consider looking at some of the dyed fabric and just stitch the edges and main pattern - I have seen many lovely dyed fabrics that would look lovely without stitching the background.

And that's a great idea about the hand dyed fabric - I may have to do that. It's a very large design at 28.6" x 38.9" on 25 ct over 2, 10 skeins of black! Wow, that would be a commitment to do the background as well. But I think it could be easily adapted to work on some pretty hand dyed fabric.

You might want to check out a company called 'Chromatic Alchemy'. They have some beautiful dyed cross stitch fabrics. Looks like they are based in Britain but probably ship to the U.S.
