I've spent the last few years stitching stockings for everyone in the family, and it usually took me a year to finish each! My recommendation is to find a "quick assembly" kit for this year, and then choose something to work on for next year that would be appropriate for a lifetime of use. There are so many patterns to choose from, most are not difficult (one stitch at a time) but not quick either. That way you won't feel rushed and will enjoy your project more. Good luck, butmore important have fun.

Hi, I would suggest you look at the Bent Creek stockings such as "My Favorite Things" or "Christmas Eve".
The stockings are NOT in a kit, you would have to buy the pattern, fabric (18--count ) , needle and the floss. The stockings are not very large but you have the advantage of not having to cross-stitch the whole fabric which would be a quick stitch up AND you can put your grandchild's name on it. Other Bent Creek stockings like this could be nice coordinating stockings for future Xmas years.
Hope this helps. :) I'm not an employee of ECS but one of the stitchers on this chat.

You're right time is ticking! Good luck. I've been stitching since the mid 80ties and a stocking takes me several months.

Look for some stockings where only the cuff is stitched. I did some nice ones from a Leisure Arts pattern but it was many years ago.

You should be able to finish a cuff by Christmas.

True, Miss Kitty. I did Sno Folks, etc and one in particular took me almost a year. Of course I have relatively little time to stitch and also want to do other things.

Where can one buy the stockings you have described? Just curious. I'm done with stockings.

Congratulations, Grandma! Just an idea.... Since time is short, you might consider checking U Tube for directions on how to make a quilted stocking. (Eleanor Burns has a good one) You could stitch a cross stitch cuff with her name and maybe some bells or angels or Santas or Christmas trees or Baby Jesus in the manger on it, too. Sew a cross grain ribbon on the raw edges to finish it off. Then sew the cuff on the top of the stocking.
Or you could do the same thing with a store bought stocking instead of making a quilted one.
