Miss crossstitch you are wrong again! This is a Dimensions Inc. kit and they have their own floss which is not sold separately.

If you go to Cyberstitchers.com you will find a conversion chart for Dimension floss to DMC floss. For the 2 colors you mention:

13072 maroon is the comparable to #816 DMC
17981 dark blue is comparable to #823 DMC

Hope this helps.

Dimensions will probably supply the floss, if you ran short. It's good customer relations for them & very inexpensive.

I would call Dimensions if I were you. I did a project "Savannah Birth Record" the second time around and ran out of the maroon thread that came with the kit for the Lion's mane. I used up the small amount of thread that I had and went and bought DMC equivalent and finished the mane. There was a noticeable difference in the color. I ripped out the dimensions color and replaced it with the DMC.

It's worth the time and effort to call and get the correct thread (unless you haven't done any of it in the dimensions thread yet. The yellow for the sun is a noticeable difference also. DMC was slightly darker than the Dimensions floss.

Just my two cents.

I try to avoid kits and just look for patterns as I have a very good inventory of floss, fabric, aida cloth, etc. But sometimes they are so appealing I just can't help myself. I have found any time I have run short, at least with Dimensions, they are very good about forwarding the shorted colors in pretty short order at their expense. You will find a customer service number is supplied.

Be careful with that Dimensions vs. DMC list. I used it once a couple months ago, and the DMC color it listed as being the same as the Dimensions color wasn't close at all. They were both pink, but that was it. I have a big enough stash that I was able to find something closer. Compare the two colors before you assume that the DMC will work.

The Dimensions vs DMC floss was just a suggestion to get started. I guess I am one of the lucky ones, because all of the Dimensions kits I have done have had more than enough floss. I actually keep a project bag with the extra Dimension floss in with the numbers attached so if I need some for a Dimension kit I go there first. I don't do very many kits anymore may-be 10% of my stitching projects.
