Stitching with Variegated Floss
I'm confused. I thought stitching with variegated floss was the same technique as regular floss.
Go "\\\\\\\", then come back with the cross "////////". But my pattern instructions said to make a full stitch "X" before moving on the the next so it has a distinct variegation. Said if you stitch \\\\\ then back it will give a speckle look. I did some like I usually do and it looked great to me. Syagel, you or JHewes have any words of wisdom for this for me? All comments are welcome.

I finally started a project using linen. JHewes, you are right, I love it.

JClifford I have not done a variegated floss project yet, but everything I have read about it says you should make each cross stitch one at a time instead of going all the way across and then come back. I am still looking for a pattern to try my variegated colors on, besides the little one that was included with the box of DMC variegated floss when I bought it.

Your comment is good enough for me. I did however do one small item with the variegated (black, grey combo) and it looks very nice, but won't do it again with the other colors.

I am doing the Universe Dragon (Stone Dragon, Fire Dragon and etc). It has a lot of variegated floss. Beautiful.

Also my first linen project. I am so loving linen!!!

Thanks jclifford. I just added the pattern to my wish list. Will order so I have a variegated project to do and will try it on linen. Never tried linen yet.

Usually stitching with variegated floss is done one cross at a time, but since there are no cross-stitch police !!! do it whatever way you think it looks good.

I know I'll never go wrong when listening to Syagel and JHewes!!! I'll do it the way they recommend! Syagel, I must say that linen is definitely the way to go. I absolutely love it. I was so intimidated by linen because I didn't have the safety of the holes like in Aida, and I procrastinated doing linen, but now I've tried it, I don't think I'll ever go back (except I have to use up my stash first).

This project shouldn't take YOU long to do, take a pic, love to see it when you're done.

That's a heavy burden, jclifford. I'm frequently wrong, & there are others here who know more than I do. Thanks for the compliment, however.

Jclifford I agree with jlhewes it is a heavy burden. If you only knew all of the mistakes I have made over the years and learned from. I could write a book with all my mistakes. LOL I am going to get a piece of 28ct. linen when I order the dragon pattern and give it a try. I am sure that I will have some more "boo boos to add before I get done, but you have gotten me interested in trying it.

JHewes & Syagel: That's why you girls are so talented - because of the boo-boos you've gone through. Ripping out makes perfect. I'll be a star soon with all the ripping I've done.

I just love the dragon, the one color makes it kinda boring, but it makes me plunge ahead to get to the variegated colors coming up. Oh what fun!

Jclifford I am going to try linen. I am in the process of one of my projects making Christmas ornaments for my friends for gifts. I am going to go to JoAnn Fabric and get some 28ct. white linen and make one on it. I figure I better start small. Thanks for the suggestion and encouragement.

I have a 50% off coupon for JoAnn Fabrics. I haven't paid full price for any thing there in years. Love those coupons.
