First of all make sure you make at least one copy of the pattern to mark up and tape together. I tape my pattern copy together and hang on design wall if it has several pages. If I am going to tape a pattern I make 2 copies - one to mark and one to tape and hang. One project that I am doing now has 15 pages so I have one set of pages hanging on my design wall so I can keep my stitching organized. Hope this helps.

I don't mark on my original so that I have it if I want to do it again or pass on to another stitcher friend.

I do as syagel. First I make two copies, one's my master, taped together and the other I keep in sections because it's easier for me to handle. That's the one I mark on and toss when I am finished. Like syagel I never mark on the original unless I discover a mistake.
Good luck.

I do the same so I can see the whole item together, and mark accordingly, or make changes to customize if I wish. Enjoy!

I'm the odd ball out. I do make a copy to mark on, but I don't tape together. I just stitch one page at a time. It's a perfect square. After I finish one page, then I move on to the next page that is adjacent to the first one that I stitched and so on. This way, I don't have marks on several pages and go back and forth. It confuses me more. I'm easily confused!!!

That's why I tape one j. I've had one heck of a time the first time I stitched a pattern with several pages due to overlap. If the symbols on the original are large enough to refer to without requiring a magnifying glass then I skip the taped copy. I'm always in a hurry and get confused. Haste makes waste! :)

I just want to thank those who gave the suggetion to make copies of the pattern pages. I cross stitched a tea cup where the pattern came in a stapled booklet, and dumb dumb me just kept flipping pages, back and forth, as I stitched. Thought I'd go batty. Never thought of copying the pages and taping them together, and I even have a small personal copy machine at home. I don't even have to leave the house to make copies. Duh. And I've been so worried about wear and tear on the originals, that I keep the patterns that were not stapled together in those plastic sleeves to protect them as I stitch. I will still use the plastc covers (I don't mark on my patterns, but use magnets to mark my place), but now I don't have to worry with the originals tucked safely away. Thanks again for the great idea, Adele

No need for thanks. We learn from each other. That's what makes this chat so great. I had a similar experience as you have described until my daughter asked me why I don't copy and/or enlarge the pattern. Duh!!!!!

Love the Kruger novels. Thanks.

Me too. I learned the hard way to make copies. Made some real "doozy" mistakes before I learned to make the copies. I only mark on one copy. I don't mark on the copy I tape together only a note each time I finish a page.

I think I was dealing with a Lavender & Lace or a Lanarte. At first, I put package tape on the folds to reinforce them, but it was still like dealing with a roadmap. Finally, I got smart. Had to fold them different ways on my scanner, but didn't care about any damage by then. Just get the *%#* copies made.
