Finished this sampler
Finally finished one baby sampler. Now on another sampler and a "Grandparents" sampler for my sister in law. She's a first time grandparent.

Put on our website.

Very cute, j. Is that why we haven't heard from you. I finished my Hummel the other day and am giving myself some time off. I plan to do the Thanksgiving one and went to the Hobby Lobby yesterday to pick up a few skeins of floss. I looked for 310 everywhere and could not find it. When I got home I realized that 310 is black!!! They have it stocked at the beginning next to white. I was so upset in the store and had a good laugh when I discovered my mistake. I was in a hurry and angry as well because the floss is always on the bottom. If you don't have it in numerical sequence on your list, you're up and down and back and fourth until you're dizzy.
Never heard of a Grandparents' sampler, sounds nice. The first Sunday after Labor Day is Grandparents'Day. Nobody knows about that either. Hallmark makes cards for every occasion but it. Go figure.

We grandparents don't need a day when we know the kids are okay, but Hallmark is missing a bet!

We might not need one but we deserve one, Su Pitt!!!!!!! :)

LOL Texas Stitcher: I guess I haven't been commenting too much lately. But I do read all the posts.

I always put my floss list in numerical order (done with excel and sort) and then print out and take to the store. I did a list in random order and I was forever getting confused and bought the same color twice. I had no pen to mark it off with. Now I go with a list in numerical order and a pen in hand. Much easier.

I wished Michaels carried the specialty threads such as Glissengloss, etc. I had to order it. It's $4.00 a skein!!! I hope I only need 1 skein.

I had to buy the magazine from 2010 from Stoney Creek to get the pattern. It's so beautiful! My sister-in-law collects cups and saucers and teapots (miniature ones) from all over. One year I gave her a tea set hand made by a Korean and put Korean words on it meaning, Faith, Family, Friends. Now that she's becoming a Grandparent for the first time, I want to give her and her husband a gift as well as the baby/mother at the same time. It has teacups on the sampler! The sampler for the baby has alphabets on it (mother is a school teacher for special needs elementary children). I was very fortunate that I thought about that and found just what I was looking for. I will post both when finished. I'm halfway done with the baby sampler and over halfway with the Grandparents sampler (Grandparents sampler is very easy- no blending, full cross stitch). I need to be done with all of it by April. Still have a bib and crochet booties left to do. Very busy.

Times must have changed, because when I was Dept. head at Kroger's we carried Grandparent's Day cards. I like to think everyday is Grandparent's Day!

When I go to JoAnn's to get DMC floss I make a numerical list and check them off as I put them in my cart. I learned the hard way because once I went and got several colors except the 2 I needed.

Very cute project.

I had DH with me - need I say more???? He likes to come along these days especially if he thinks it's a quick run. I feel under pressure because he always asks "what are you looking at now"?

syagel, I wish that you were still Department Head at Kroger's. The stores in this area leave a LOT to be desired. When living in LA I loved Kroger's, everything was perfect. Out of the clear blue, Safeway took over and things went downhill. They had this catchy little jingle on the radio "let's go Krogering...". Now we have to go to five different stores to get what we need. Tiring and a waste of time. I miss H-E-B so much. We are praying that they will build one in our area. Forty minutes is too far to go grocery shopping. Although Montana residents travelled greater distances than that. It's the same with JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby and Michael's. We have to go to different locations for different items. To get decent fabric for little projects we have to travel to Calico Corners - 25 miles one way. It's a pain in the neck even if you have time.

Yes, we'll hold the fort down. jlhewes will have to be responsible for the technical queries, jclifford will introduce her humor and tell people off and I'll try to do what I can. You have fun!!!!!

jclifford, you are such a good and thoughtful daughter, mother, wife, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend. I love the "Sunset" you stitched for DH. I'm an only "child" and orphan by now and much the same with my husband, so all we have are our kids and grandkids. Thank God for those. I did a lot of crocheting when I was young, now all know how to make are afghans. Mostly baby blankets though, due to my need to see the finished project. That's why I won't stitch the very large patterns that some stitchers do.

Well, I have to return yet another call from Ethan Allen. Maybe I'll wait until Monday so as not to ruin my weekend. I love their styles so much, too bad the workmanship leaves so much to be desired along with customer service.

jclifford, where did you buy the mermaid material. I looked for dark olive 28ct cashel linen but didn't even come close to finding it here.

I just ordered Lugana for my Thanksgiving project. I started on 32 ct jobelin - beautiful material - but it's a no go. I love the feel of it. The pattern is too big for me to torture myself.

jclifford, I just looked at the sampler, it's beautiful. I know that the parents will be so pleased. Good choice and great work. Did you frame it yourself???? I have the learn to do that yet.

I bought the fabric from 123 Stitch. It wasn't exact, but close enough to satisfy me.

Yes, I framed the sampler myself. I bought the frame from Michaels right off the shelf. The trick is the mat. I had that mat special made (only $12.00) and that makes the frame look better and make the project look bigger.

I will post the Grandparents sampler when I get the floss and do the writing.
