What's included
Hello,

Is this a kit or simply a pattern? If a pattern, how do you turn it into a stocking?

Thanks
Frank

It's a pattern. You'll have to find someone to turn it into a stocking for you if you don't know how to sew. If you have a cross stitch shop in your area you could check with them for suggestions. I bought a stocking and used it as a pattern. You'll need material for the back, lining and fusible lining along with the cord or whatever embellishments you choose. It's tricky trusting someone to do it for you. I paid a huge amount of money once and the lady did the crappiest job. The one that was displayed at the shop had been done beautifully also by her.
It's a beautiful pattern. Good luck.

PS There are books and other reference material available that will help you along. Just take your time and measure twice before you cut once.

I wonder what these designers think? There are so many stocking patterns, one would assume they'd include finishing to be competitive.

Probably nothing! Seriously though, I have a book containing several stocking patterns with assembly instructions included. Looking at them I came to the conclusion that if someone does not know how to sew they would not be able to make heads nor tails out of it.
My daughter has a machine and a serger, I have a machine and bought yet another one (the one I have is too complicated to operate - I use it maybe once a year and have to read a manual the size of a dictionary), all to assemble 5 stockings. Last year time ran out, I hope that we can sew them up this year.

One could buy a nice stocking, cut the stitched one out and serge it and then attach it to the bought one with tiny stitched - maybe.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I found a needlepoint shop here who says they can construct the stocking for me - fingers crossed it works out!

Now another question - I don't see Jubilee 28ct fabric on sale anywhere (what's recommended for this pattern). What do people recommend for a good substitute?? I've seen Lugano on another site...? THANKS!

I found that Jubilee 28ct. has been discontinued. Stoney Creek website said they are substituting Jazlyn 28ct. fabric for it.

I also found out that the Jazlyn 28ct. is comparable to the 28ct. Lugana which they sell on this website here. I have never used Lugana so can't tell you much more. I know some of the other ladies have used it and they can help you with more information. Hope this helps a little.

I personally like Lugana 25 ct because it's so easy to stitch and seems to provide just the right size for stockings. syagel likes Aida. It's all a matter of preference. I have to check Jubilee out, probably some sort of linen, I didn't see on ECS but that means nothing. I'm a lousy researcher. I did 5 stockings on 18 ct Linen by Wichelt Imports but think that it would be too rustic for the motif that you have chosen. The others I stitched I did on Lugana.

Try 123Stitch.com for the fabric. I don't fool around too much with ordering unless it's from this site because we have a shop in town and if ECS doesn't have it I shop there. They serge the material as well. One of the other stitchers is sure to respond and let you know.

Good luck with the assembly.

I've never used Jazlyn, but I think it's shinier. Probably look good for a Xmas stocking. Isn't there a Damask Aida that's shiny too?

Too bad about Jobelin, it's such an attractive fabric both in appearance and feel. I have a large piece but it's 28 ct. Maybe with my new Ott light????? I haven't seen Jazlyn. Would it detract from the floss if it's shiny? I have to make a trip to the shop I suppose. I like to see and touch it before I commit. That's one of the drawbacks of ordering.

I do like this pattern very much, it's looks so Northern (Scandinavia I guess). I might order it.

Texas Stitcher, I believe SYagel was referring to Jubilee. Can't believe they'd quit making Jobelan.

Texas Stitcher yes it is Jubilee that has been discontinued not Jobelin.
