Chit Chat Enhancements
Hello Everyone!

This is Troy from EXS. We are happy that many of you are enjoying ChitChat! We have been discussing how popular the board is becoming, and are kicking around ideas to make better.

Do you have some suggestions? I do the web development here, and I figured who better to ask for ideas then all of you. No idea is a bad one. So if you’ve ever thought “I wish I could do this…” or “Why in the world hasn’t Troy thought of that???” now is your chance to let me know. (lol)

If you have suggestions, please post them to this topic. I’d love to hear your ideas! I can’t promise I can do everything, but I’d love to hear any ideas you all might have.

Thanks!

Troy

The one thing that I would like to see is to get rid of most of the really old posts. There are 121 pages of them on here now, but I never go back any farther than 10 pages and check them out. That would be a big change to me. I do love this chat room though where we can all help each other.

Hey syagel,

OK. Thats a good idea. I have the ability to "inactivate" old posts.
I havent because I didnt really have a good rule for when a post or thread should be inactive.

What do you think? After 5 days of no activity? 10 days?

The only problem with getting rid of old posts is that if a product you have for sale is connected to a post, you will be deleting information that others have asked about the product. Some I found helpful, like the discusdion in the Easy-Count Guideline. I guess a new person could start a new post asking about things all over again. Just a thought.

arottenbucher,

I wouldnt delete the post. It would still show up on the product page. Because I totally agree with you that posts about specific products or items should hang around forever.

I am just talking about on the main chit-chat page.

Maybe it makes senst for those pages to be trimmed back some.

Hi Troy....
The one thing that would make this chat board better is........to be able to upload pictures of our pieces as we complete them!

I would like the ability to be able to do a search on a specific topic and be able to bring up the conversation threads with the key words. I have seen this capability on other sites and it is helpful when you are having a problem that may have already been discussed. Just a thought. Thanks.

lpnbarnes,

Pictures is an Awesome idea. I've been wanting to do that for some time. I think it would be cool if when someone finishes a project, if they posted a picture and attached it to the actual pattern or kit, it would be great for other stitchers who might want to see what it looked like.

Keep the good ideas coming.

lbcatlovr001,

I like this one too. It will take some design work to make it happen. It isnt hard looking for a particular 'word', but gets kina trickey when you look for strings of words together. But your suggestion is on the list, and I will see what I can do.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Troy:

I was going to add to my last post and saw your reply already. Thanks I think this would be very helpful. Another idea I just thought of is expanding on Syagel's thought. How about a searchable archive of the older posts, so they are gone from this current list, but accessible if someone needs info that may have been covered at an earlier date. Thanks again.

The things I immediately thought of are the searchable archive and uploading of finished projects to the product, but you might want to be able to archive the uploads, also...for when products are discontinued. Would the archives be searchable by contributors, also? By specific products?

I would like to post a,

HOORAY, TROY AND EXS!!!

WELL DONE!
