WHERE DO YOU SIT?
Let's forget about our Hubby' remote control for this thread if possible. I am curious about where other stitchers sit. I like to sit in the spare bedroom/office. Best chair and best best lighting in the house. I listen to talking books that I get from the library. That way I get to read and stitch at the same time. The only problem is that I am sitting in front of my computer. That is so-o-o distracting. Constantly taking a minute (or two or three or sixty) to check out the free pattern sites and check the Chit Chat board.

When I do my stitching I sit in my comfortable chair in the living room so I can watch TV or a DVD while I stitch. I have my fluorescent light and my stack of drawers with my floss and supplies in them beside me. I also have an end table to keep my drinks on while I stitch. I can sit for hours and stitch.

My laptop is in the extra bedroom and I go in there for computer time.

Our small house greatroom has an easy chair I usually stitch in, cat permitting. I also have a small recliner in the front bedroom that gets great afternoon light. Ott lights in both. Happy stitcher!

When I stitch, I sit in the family room which has lots of windows and is on the southwest side of the house. I crave sunlight. I have a comfortable La-Z-Boy to sit in with everything I need next to me. My hubby is also in the family room too, in his La-Z-Boy, usually watching his sports or on computer. But we do watch other things together and I watch and stitch. I also read in the same spot; TV noise doesn't bother me. However, in the warm weather, I move out to our big enclosed porch, or three-season room as some call it. I have a La-Z-Boy out there too (Monroe, Michigan, is the home of the La-Z-Boy Chair Company). My Kindle, books, and cross stitch travel with me to those two places, and there is where you will usually find me :-) Adele

I have a recliner in the living room. I have a floor stand full spectrum lamp and a music stand for my chart (it is wooden and is Craftsman style that goes with all the oak in our living room from that period). I have two end tables, a cordeless phone, my eReader (soon to be a tablet), a basket for WIPs, a big rectangular ottoman for new thinfs to do and two bins of stuff too!
My husband is on the computer in the library. We each have a TV, but I have the stereo. He has his aquarium and all the books and the Pug in his easy chair. I have the two Boston Terriers who share my lap when I stitch, but refuse to be there together.
I have the wood stove, but seldom a fire, as it chases us out of the house with too much heat.

I sit on the right end of the couch with a full spectrum lamp over my work. The lamp is made for stitching and comes with a large clip to hold my large magnetic board with my pattern on it. It also has a magnifying glass on a gooseneck (which I haven't used) and there's a tray to hold lots of things but I prefer to keep everything for one project in a large plastic bag instead and just keep my red pens (for filling in the squares on the pattern) in the tray. I bought another lamp with a gooseneck to go behind the couch so I have light from two directions. The couch is opposite the TV in the living room so I always have something to "watch" while I stitch. Mostly, I listen but I can look up at any time.

Since I am in a wheelchair I find sitting at the dining room table works best for me. Santa is bringing me a Tomorrows Treasure stand that I can use on the table. Can't wait for Christmas for my new toy! Hubby wasn't sure which one I wanted so he had me order it today, but I cannot use it until Chritstmas. Sometimes I will sit in my Lazy boy, but find the table works better. The dining room and living room are like one room so I can see the tv if I choose to watch it. I stitch and hubby brews beer. Life is good! MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY STITCHING EVERYONE!

Sounds like we all have our special comfy places to do our stitching. They all sound great. Merry Christmas to all of you from here in Northwest Ohio!!!

Yes, Merry Christmas to you all, Adele from Southeast Michigan!

Nancye G, why don't you turn the computer off? I wouldn't be able to get any stitching done with the computer on. It takes me forever to get my banking, etc done because, like you, I goof around too much.
I have a new chair and ottoman in my bedroom. I cannot believe that I threw out my Lazyboy recliner for this stylish piece of crap, pardon the expression. The armrests are too low, the cushions are too firm, the material is too rough..... Yet, in the store it felt perfect. After the holidays, I plan on moving it into the office and purchase another Lazyboy. The old one was a wingchair recliner and perfect for stitching. It was 21 year old and although it did not show its age it was time for it to go. I use an Ott light (floor model) and listen to music. Much less distracting for me than TV. The uniformity of my stitches suffers when watching TV. DH doesn't like for me to turn on the lamp in the media room so rarely do I stitch in there. That's another reason why I can't get anything done.
I got my order from ECS today - yes, on Sunday. I ordered Maggie the Messmaker and think that I bit off more than I can chew, also a fairy (Mirabilia), along with a bag full of floss. I'd like to do Maggie on 25 ct Lugana but since it's a kit that won't happen. It's 18ct Aida a bit small for me. Probably a sable.
Adele, I wish I had a sun room. We have a nice patio with comfortable furniture but we rarely use it. It's either too hot, too cold or too windy in TX. Last fall was the perfect day to stitch outside, I had just gotten comfortable when the mosquitos began buzzing around my head. When living in VA I would stitch outside almost all day.

Guess I missed an important piece of information. Cannot turn off the computer. My patterns are all in the computer. My smart hubby found me a discontinued something or other called PDF Converter. It allows me to bring up my patterns -- enlarge them -- and I can cross off as I go along. It does a whole lot of other things but I don't know what. Therefore, I have to sit in front of the computer in order to stitch. Don't have a tablet or a kindle or a smart phone and will not be getting one anytime soon.

Hope you all get your good intentions stitched by Christmas. Happy Chanukah to all my Jewish friends.

From Nancye in St. Louis, formerly Phoenix, and originally Detroit.
