Yes, we're in the same boat. It' s a shame. We go more & more online. There are some "100,000 Watt" shops out there with worldwide business. This is one. There are still local shops scattered around that can help stitchers. We have a lady on the Chit Chat who works in a needlework shop in Calgary. I have a shop in California I can call.

As for floss, Anchor & others have a more limited distribution in shops. Ditto, the Overdyed floss & fabrics. We have a few Dimensions, Janlynn, or other kits in the craft store chains. That's it.

Welcome to the World Economy! Also, this site & chat room, which are both good!

PS: DMC uses 4 numbers. You may be seeing numbers from other companies floss.

Yes we are all in the same boat here in Ohio. I order all my cross stitching patterns and supplies online now except for DMC floss which I can still get at my local JoAnn Fabrics. It is the only store here with any cross stitch supplies and they are getting skimpier there. ECS is my go to shop online for my patterns and the few kits I have purchased.

DMC floss numbers are 3 or 4 digits long. I have seen some other companies that use 5 digit numbers. I always use DMC floss. I have all the colors plus some extra skeins of most colors. I have never had any problems with DMC.

Just curious. What does "WATT" mean? I know it has to do with websites, but what is the actual meaning of the acronym? It is a new one on me. LOL

Merry Christmas all!

Yep, pretty much. We have one shop in the area and then there are the three chains, Michael's, Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's. The chains get on my nerves because they carry very little in our area and the floss is always on the very bottom (who wants to crawl around and get up and down at my age) and our shop is hopelessly overcrowded, dusty and dire need of a reno. The people are very nice that stitch there but the have a microwave and food in the bathroom and various other gross practices. They wait on 6 customers at once, so if you go in for a skein of floss it could take up to 90 minutes to complete the transaction. They do awesome framing but at a cost.
I love ECS, the merchandise is always clean. The selection is huge, the staff certainly are the best, so what could be better than ordering from them - nothing.
Welcome to the chat and ECS.

SYagel, I forget the correct grammatical term. Too long ago...sigh! I was using something big & powerful, like those radio stations you can hear all over the country (WGN, etc.) To compare to the huge online needlework shops (Herrschner's, etc)

That's what I thought (WATTS) but wasn't sure.

This is it, I am procrastinating, hoping somebody will post something that I can answer!!!!! I updated my various calendars and just generally goofed around. DH is probably hungry already again. The washer, dryer and dishwasher are finished - there is no help for it. I have to log out and do this blasted housework.
