I am doing a 25th anniversary sampler. (Leisure Arts book - Happy Anniversary) the original pattern was for a 50th & only listed gold floss.. in order to convert to 25th, I purchased DMC S5200, which is silver rayon, or at least I thought so.. working on ivory aida. other color surrounding 25 are DMC 761 (salmon).
I am not happy with the "25"; not prominent on this pattern.. guess I made a bad color choice & should have used a color in the pattern as some of the other patterns did..
the 25 is the center of pattern and worked first so I not sure about trying to remove & redo w/ other floss. thinking small seed pearls, stitched in & around 25 randomly?
any ideas stitchers? all are welcome..

Beads or seed pearls sound nice and should bring out the detail more. You could also take out the numbers and use a matching floss color and one strand of silver Kreinik. It's okay to change the pattern, there are no rules here! :) Good luck and don't forget to post a picture on our website upon completion.

Sorry, dbye. Before you rip, place the colors on the fabric and explore all other options. I know, I hate to rip too, just be careful. Good luck! Hey I just thought of something - try backstitching the "25" with a strand of darker floss from the pattern list and see how it looks. What do you have to lose at this point? :)

your help got me motivated.. I have already ripped, successfully I might add, whew! The ripping was what worried me, you know how that can go wrong... will now try color in pattern, with silver as you suggested.. I have done this on other projects.. but will experiment on scraps first to make sure I am happy w/ end result..
thanks again Darlene

Seems to me that DMC colors with an "S" in front of the number are a rayon or silk match for the same color in the cotton floss. That means S5200 would match DMC 5200 which is Snow White. I know what a disappointment it is when something you are all fired up to do doesn't turn out as we expected it to.

yes Nancyg, I guess the color was really white, but being rayon it had a sheen like silver.. what I did not consider was the pastel colors in the pattern & especially the fact that the aida was ivory.. used DMC blue green (503) which is in the pattern w/ kreinik metallic incandescent floss.. I think it gives just the pick up it needed.. now, if I can just get the correct date, I can finish this up.. lol
waiting patiently for January; bought Nativity Painting by Artecy & anxious to start. Happy Holidays !! Darlene

Way to go, Darlene. Good idea about the sample swatch. You can try various colors and combinations. yeah, I know, I had a mishap with a birth sampler many years ago. I was finished except for the name. I didn't cut completely through and was able to salvage it without it showing. Also with a table cloth. I had to embellish with additional stitching over the entire thing - many extra hours but worth it. Good luck and post a pic, okay! Sandra
