Pearl/perle vs floss
I learned something today. There are different weights of Perle cotton. I used it a lot when I needlepointed. Thought it to be too thick for cross stitch. So today, I learned that I am wrong. Anyone use it on 14 ct AIDA? I'm thinking about buying a spool to use on a small project. Any input?

Guess I must have played hooky the day they taught this at the cross stitch academy.

Works well on any fabric, but might not cover as well on Aida.

I used it a lot for Huck Woven towels & Hardanger. Caron & other companies offer Pearl/Perle in their over dyed lines of thread.

If you have a DMC floss color chart, you can check colors and sizes, 3, 5, 8, 12.

Nancye, I don't like to stitch with it. I don't know which weight I used but it felt thick and bulky to me. I had to take care to keep the floss short or it would untwist towards the needle. I agreed to the these blasted Christmas stockings for various family members and had to substitute with pearl cotton because the shop owner did not have all the overdyes the pattern required. I then moved on to overdyes but kept running out and had to order. That put me way behind schedule, so I decided to do the rest with plain DMC (4 strands). The fabric is 18 ct linen and feels like burlap it's so rough. I got cheaper and cheaper with the floss the more I had to stitch, it's for the other side of the family. I think it's Bent Creek. Never again. It felt sweat shop like.

I also did a table topper (square 1 meter by 1 meter) with pearl. It was my mother's favorite floss and hated stitching with it and did not care for the appearance. Most likely it was the heavy weight because that was at least 25 years ago.

As with everything it's personal preference. When my daughter did Hardanger she liked it.

I love looking at it. So many beautiful, shiny colors!
