kinda new
I started a Thomas Kinkade cross Stich. I noticed I did not get 1 color and I messed up so I really need 2 colors. Does anyone know what kind of brand of floss they use so I can get my 2 colors I need.
Thanks in advance.

Thomas Kincaid cross stitch designs are made by 2 different companies (either Candamar Designs which is a US company or Maia/Anchor which I believe is from the UK), so it depends on which design you have---some designs are made by one and others by the other, and I think they both make the same design with a different look for one winter holiday scene. The chart and symbol info with your kit or maybe even a separate sheet always contains info at the bottom of the page stating "if you need customer service for this kit" or something to this effect and it will provide a phone # or mailing address to contact if you encounter a problem.

Ok, Thank you. I have a Candamar Designs. I guess I will have to call them, I was hoping to just find it on my own since the floss is so cheap.
Thanks for your help

Your welcome and good luck finishing your piece. I am sure it will be beautiful when it is done. The floss included in kits is typically different from the floss you purchase in the store and if you were to just substitute your store bought brand into your kit, you would visibly notice the difference between the two. The store bought DMC brand is a higher quality floss and it is one of the most popular US flosses sold but there is also Sullivans which I have never used and Anchor. These flosses are less often used in kits but are used in some of the more expensive kits. There are also lower quality flosses sold in the stores besides these brands that usually come in fewer colors. Many kits use their own lower quality flosses in comparison to the above mentioned store bought higher quality flosses. I hope that makes sense. Happy stitching.

Don't forget the warning about the floss that reads "DMC colors" but is not DMC brand or the high quality Egyptian cotton.

I keep seeing this Sullivan's advertised, but don't hear much discussion about it. I asked about it, but there was only one response that I saw. I sincerely apologize that I don't remember who it was...but I do know it was one of the more experienced....but she stated she liked DMC. I don't think she gave an answer as to "why".

I might try it...their free patterns are pretty...but their colors would have to be pretty special to get me to make a jump...not to mention the sheen and quality of the dyes. :)

Vcess-

I learned with DMC and never have used anything but DMC except for the floss that comes with kits. I live in a rural with a small city area nearby and know of one mom and pop retailer about 10-15 minutes away that has listed that they sell Sullivans floss, but I have never gone to this retailer to actually see it or been able to feel and compare it to DMC or other lesser kit flosses that I have used. I would not change my floss now since I have such a large quantity of DMC amongst my many projects, unless I just tried it for 1 small project just to see what it is like in comparison. As for your note about the DMC colors but not DMC brand, I have not seen floss advertised this way myself and this is news to me. This is one of the best parts of this board to learn things like this from each other, and I will keep my eyes peeled for floss sold this way.

Hi, Catlovr,

The floss that I saw was on Amazon.com. It was a packet of a large collection of floss...DMC colors was prominently displayed, every bit as large as the brand name of the seller. You had to actually read in the description the fact that it was not, in fact, DMC floss, but was identified by DMC numbers. It ticked me off that I could be so easily taken in and had almost bought it! Since then, I've seen the comparison to DMC colors several times....very subtle, and some may be buying stuff they don't even realize isn't genuine.....May think it a labeling "gimmick". Online purchasing is a jungle! And they are stalking our pocketbooks! Lol

someone is doing "false advertising" if they are claiming floss is DMC when it is not!

I hate the words "similar" and "like" when these words are used in ads trying to sell something ie.
"This floss is SIMILAR to DMC floss" or "This floss is LIKE DMC". Well, a person is NOT paying for the words "LIKE" or "SIMIILAR". Sounds to me like someone has a load of floss on their hands they just want to get rid of...

I only buy Dmc floss myself. This was just something I ordered cause I wanted to try one. I have searched the colors and numbers can't find them. Going to have to call them.

there is a shop near me that sells Sullivan floss. From what I was told it is made in Australia. They also claim that their colors match DMC. I bought several skeins and when I got it home and examined it carefully I was not happy with the quality. In addition when I put it next to my DMC color chart I noticed that they were close, but not a match and the Sullivan thread was duller. Linda

I only use real DMC floss and always have. I have seen the ads that say they are similar to DMC colors. My advice is to stay away from them.
