size of needle
What size needle should I use for stamped cross stitching on material like chef's apron or sailcloth? How am I supposed to know the size of needles? Thank you for your help. Mona

Mona, that is a question for syagel! for stamped cross stitch you'll be using a sharp needle and again it all depends on your fabric. Larger needle for heavy fabric and smaller for lighter or more delicate fabric. I absolutely hate stamped cross stitch and only did one project that contained a few sections of x-stitch, the rest was made up of various embroidery stitches, so I can offer very little advice. It drives me crazy when the stitches don't line up, I am always attempting a counted cross stitch look. Hope my comments won't take the fun out your project. Everybody is different and I have issues with certain things. LOL

I can't do counted, I have to see what I'm stitching. I get all confused with just counting. As you cen see, my skill level is beginning.

Most kits will include the correct size needle for the work. Basically you need one that won't leave giant holes in your stitching but with a hole that's large enough to hold the thread. Look for a packet of embroidery needles that have multiple size needles in the pack. And you'll need sharps embroidery needles -- tapestry needles are for counted-cross stitch. Just pick a size and punch it thru the fabric. You'll get a feel for what will work and what won't.
