QUILTING QUESTION
To my friends who stitch and quilt -- I have been using a template to trace shapes for my yarmulke project. Some of my pencils/pens didn't show up on some of my fabrics. Went to buy different colored markers and "re-discovered" tracing paper. Has anyone used this for tracing the shapes?

I have used tracing paper on quilt projects in the past and have had some success with them, you have to be careful if you are using a 'carbon-paper' type of medium to transfer the image you copied onto your fabric. If your fabric is light colored I usually just put the image on a light box and them trace it onto my materiel. I recently did this with a Welsh dragon onto some linen which I then cross-stitched. If I am doing a large project, like a quilt, I will put my image on a sheet of clear plastic and put it on a projector and then shine it on a wall that I have pinned my materiel on. I moved the projector as close or as far away as I need to get the size image I need.
I have in the past purchased markers and pencils designed to place an image on fabric that will wash out when you have completed your project. What I currently use, and it's much less expensive, is Crayola fine point markers for children. They some in a variety of colors, and they always wash out completely. I have had some difficulty with the off-brands, but they also washed out, they just required a little more work. You can purchase a box of 6 colors for the same price as one marker from the fabric store.
Good luck on your project, make sure you show us all how it turned out.

I'm both a stitcher and a quilter. If you have a quilt shop in your area they make a couple of different kinds of pens or pencils that are designed to wash out or even 'air erase' completely. You do have to pay attention to the instructions because if you iron some of them - the design becomes permanent.

Got innterrupted. You can also order the pens/pencils for marking stuff from Nancy's Notions or Keepsake Quilting. I've used both sites with good results.

QUILTERANGEL -- I do have a couple good quilt shops. I about an air erase marker that only comes in pinkish/purplish. Doesn't show up on darker colors. It evaporates but I always manage to finish before the marks disappear. Don't know why they don't make it in a darker color.

Tried another brand from a different quilt shop where I shop frequently. Absolutely hated it. Wouldn't mark on anything. I went back to the shop to make another purchase. I mentioned to the sales clerk the problem I had. Her response was that she would never recommend that particular brand. I was surprised by that answer. I hadn't asked for a refund. She didn't offer one. If she didn't like that product she should have just said something like I am sorry you didn't care for it. I've also tried some quilters pencils that I am not crazy about.

One more product. It was a thick pencil. The outside was brown. It had a thick black point. Of course, that one didn't show up on dark fabric either. I really liked that one. Had it for several years. Don't remember the brand name. I used it a couple of weeks ago and can't find it. Can't find anything like it at the local stores. I hear my husband repeating himself -- if you put things away you would know where to find them.

My husband says the same thing - I tend to just ignore him. Or laugh when he can't find something!
On the other hand, I had a stroke a couple of years ago and find that I need to be really consistent about where I put stuff or my brain literally can't remember what I did with something.

The only time my husband can't find something is when I have moved it. Or, that is what he says.
