counted crossstitch
When looking for a high level of difficulty, is the highest aida number the best? Is that the smallest, finest stitch?

HI davelovejoan,
Yes, difficulty can be in the cloth. And yes the larger the number is more of a challenge. However, other challenges include
the color of the cloth you are stitching on (black is a challenge)
If you are stitching over 2 threads
The number of pages to your pattern
The number of colors in your project
The stitches can be 1/4 stitches
The size of you project. Some finished projects are huge

What pattern(s) are you considering. We stitchers like to share what we are working on, considering, or have in our stash.

Happy stitching

I agree with xstitcher...also....you may want to consider looking at linen fabrics. I often do projects on 32 count raw linen which is very small. I love the different look linen adds to a picture. It is definitely more of a challenge. As for more information, you can Google: cross stitch helpful hints and scroll down to the Salt and Pepper.com. Access that sight and you can scroll through three or four pages that tell you everything about fabrics and what significance the "counts" have on a finished project as well as selecting other things you would need for a project. Best of luck.

P.S. If I can order the linen I like from this website....I do. If I want something that is not carried here I often go to 1-2-3- stitch.com. They have a vast array of brands, sizes and colors of linen.
