Me, Mohair and France
Hi ladies!

My shoulder replacement surgery is finally scheduled for June 9th. I am hoping that the doc is right and I will be able to stitch afterwards. I am both eager and nervous.

Problem this month:
I purchased a chart from France. The directions are all in French, but about one-third are translated to English and I am enjoying the stitch. However, I am mystified by one thing. It specifies all the floss with DMC numbers, except one, which is listed only as "mohair". On the inside chart and instruction page, it specifies that the mohair is white, but the exterior of the package, on the reverse of the color photo of the completed design, it specifies it as ecru.

The design is of an old fisherman with a beard that looks white in the color photo and no variegated or dapplng in the beard. Where the hell can I get this. Is it the Whisper fuzzy floss?

Also, it says, "Mohair, 1 strand Cut the strand into three parts. To use short strands is better". I used the Whisper floss years ago as cat fur, did turkey stitches, then cut the resulting loops and brushed them to make soft fur. That's just an aside. I think that they don't mean cut, but mean separate, like we do with regular floss. The photo seems to bear this out, as the beard looks thicker than the other floss in the design. Perhaps it is done in three separate strands and their advice to use shorter strands is similar to our advice to others about working with metallics? What do you think?

So...please help!
1. What mohair floss and where to buy?
2. Use 3 strands not two?
3. Bomb France?

Do you think they mean mohair yarn?

However, I found something called Thread Gatherers Sanibel Mohair at

www.abcstitch.com

It looks like it's embroidery floss. Other than that, I'm stumped too.

P.S. Best wishes and prayers on your surgery, and I hope you will be able to cross stitch right away. My girlfriend just had shoulder replacement and they got her moving her arm right away. She is just limited on lifting heaving things, and of course therapy has yet to get her to move her arm up high over her head. But you don't need high for cross stitching and it's not exactly heavy work. So let's hope you doctor is right, so you can cross stitch as you heal.

Choice #3. If it's Wisper, they mean cut 3 pieces. Haven't seen the Thread Gatherer mohair.

Hang in there with the shoulder rehab. I hear it's rough, but worth it. I've put off mine indefinitely. The pain mostly went away, so I'm OK for now. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

I am working on a pattern now that has the option of using "Rainbow Gallery Fuzzy Stuff" to add texture on a bear. Do you think that Mohair is for texture? I have yet to go to my local shop to find this "fuzzy stuff", to get an idea if I am using it or not.

Will be thinking and praying for you this next month as you prepare for, receive and recoup. from surgery.

Thanks, ladies, for your help! I think that I will try the Sanibel Mohair from abcstitch.com
it looks a little fuzzy and I will get both white and ecru and decide from there. There is no rush, as it is for DH. If it isn't what I need, I can try the Rainbow Gallery stuff next.
Have a great week.
