A Long Overdue Thank You
I would like to thank all of you for being so concerned about me during the heavy rains that hit Texas last month. We were not affected by it other than having to remain at home due to numerous areas experiencing flash flooding. Our huge lake rose all the way to the parking area, several boats as well as the dock were damaged. Thank you again, my fellow stitchers, I was truly touched.
I haven't been able to chit chat due to time constraints. So many appointments, Olivia's other grandmother had foot surgery and used a rascal for an entire month, so we had her mostly. She had graduation rehearsal and ceremony from pre-K, dance rehearsals and recital, a picnic at "school", you name it. It was one big party month. Our son came to visit. I had to get the house ready, do a ton of shopping and cooking. The AC drain was clogged and a "technician" came out to repair it last month. Instead he actually broke the pipe. Yesterday, DH walked into the kitchen and asked if I knew that water was dripping from the media room ceiling! We ended up placing three buckets under the drips. Around 2 pm our regular technician showed and repaired the pipe. Yesterday they said that they would pay for the damage but today when I called the manager was not in. That's okay, I have everything documented and am contacting the BBB tomorrow. I need to get this wet insulation out of my attack before black mold attacks. I had two days off this week from keeping Olivia and planned on cleaning my messy house. Instead I have resolve yet more issues. Tomorrow I have a medical appointment and errands. In the meantime I decided t rejoin your pleasant and stimulating company. I'll keep you posted.
Again, thanks for your concern.
I've noticed that there are many new stitchers. Welcome to all of you!

Good to hear from you Tex!! I have a daughter in Austin and we've been worried about her with the storms and tornado warnings. And now she's taken quite ill, able to work only half days, severely anemic, and just as the flood threat here lessens, all this hits.... more sleepless nights. You all take care, wherever you may be. I know what it's like to loose all of your stash and so many projects. Love!!

Thank you again, Friends. I was overwhelmed when I read all the posts. It is so good to be back.
I had a great day today. I had an appointment which went well despite the fact that I was 30 minutes late. I was so sure it was at 9:30. Then I went to Costco, that didn't go so well. I spent way too much money but since I have little time I try to stock up. After I got home and put everything away I had a cup of coffee and retired to my stitching chair. I am making fairly good progress. The girls, Brenda and Olivia, came over and I had to stop. Tomorrow I am going to the shop to have my three finished projects (small) framed.
VCESS, so true! Speaking of bumps. Did you hear about the one on I-20 or was it I-35. It seems there was a two foot wide crack that had most likely occurred due to the rain. It was at least 7 ft long across the highway. Six motorists caused serious damage to their vehicles. They showed a mini van, it was wrecked. Now that's a bump.
Olivia discovered a small area on the back of my head that Morad had failed to color, she does my hair when there is nothing else left to do, and told me not to go back to him because he does bad work! Can't wait to tell him. Out of the mouth of babes!

Welcome back TX stitcher and glad to hear you are safe and sound. You are missed on this board when you are absent. I hope the TX weather starts to improve so the residents there can finally recover from all the flooding and storms and have some peace.

Thanks, lbcat, I missed being here. The next couple of weeks will be ugly so I decided that I would try to keep up as much as I can this weekend. My AC pipe was not draining properly (technician's fault) and the ceiling in the media room is destroyed as well as the insulation in the attic. A lot to deal with. At first the AC company that installed this piece of equipment (being polite you can well imagine which word I want to use) said that they would pay for it. The next day when I called to find out particulars no one that has decision making power was available. Monday it's BBB time and also I plan to contact their regional office in Ohio (maybe I should fly there and try to meet up with all the Ohio stitchers LOL). See how these people are robbing me of my time. Gotta make a run to CVS, Home Depot and Kroger's.
So if I can't put in my two cents worth you know why! I also have the pest control people out on Monday to install the termite protection. I was told that Texas has two kinds of homeowners - those that have termites and those that will get them. The regular pest control will stop by on Wednesday. That's easy, he just fills the ports with whatever. He is new in our area and I have to meet with him to explain what I want done during each visit. He is a very argumentative fellow. I have spoken with him on the phone. Every one of the technicians that I have encountered tells me how shorthanded the company is and under how much pressure they are, yet everyone of them can stand around for an hour or more and talk. I am so not interested and try to be polite.

Texas I can really relate to what you're saying. It seems many of these contractors are cut from the same cloth. It sounds like you have a mess with the AC leak in your attic which I'm sure damaged your ceiling in addition to the insulation. Yes, black mold is a very serious health threat and must be addressed immediately.

I have been trying to get some house repairs done too and it seems the many promises you get when you sign the contract for the job are nothing but a sales pitch and are not carried through once you need a remedy to the job. We had gutter work done last year that came with a 5 year guarantee. So now that we are having torrential rains for several weeks, there are leaky spots that only require sealing which was confirmed by the company rep who came by to assess it. I am starting to feel that it would be easier for me to climb a ladder and seal it myself than get this contractor back here for the less than 30 minutes he said it would take to complete the job and repair it. We also had a handy man here to repair various internal house issues last August. One was simply sealing around tiles in a shower/bath combo that is next to my walk in closet and is leaking behind the wall and causing moisture in my closet. Need I say that the repair was done only 9 months ago and is already breaking down because the contractor did not use the right seal. Like you, I worry about the black mold problem especially since what I thought was finally repaired still hasn't been for close to another year. Long story short, I am the new contractor and had to do it again myself today with the right stuff after much research of what should have been used to fix it in the first place, so what did I pay him for.

Sorry for not posting a reply sooner but just noticed your post about all the rain in Texas. My husband and I are full time RV'ers and we spend our winters in Corpus Christi.....Nov 1st - May 1st. We have a couple of nasty storms in the last couple of weeks we were there but left before the really heavy rains hit. We keep up to date with our friends on Facebook and one of them joked that the campground was going to be renamed "Campground and Marina". The weather this spring has been so bad. We've been worried about friends in both Texas and Oklahoma and many others through out the mid-west. We're in South Dakota right now and a tornado missed the campground we're in by about 5 miles last weekend. We're originally from Pennsylvania and the area where we lived had tornadoes this past week also. So take care and hope things are getting back to normal for you!
