Is it possible to use only DMC thread on this project Widow Black's B&B? I am working on another one like this and the pattern gave the DMC colors to use.

Thanks,
Marsha

If it is $21.50 for one button from Just Another Button Company, I'd be shocked! It is probably a pack of buttons. Call the customer service here, or email them...you can just click on customer service at the top of the page,
. They will know if DMC alternatives are listed for the overdyed flosses recommended. Many of us cannot afford the specialty floss and use DMC. If an overdye is highly variegated or changes colors,m then I will use it, but if it I solid and the DMC is close, I use it.

I agree with Sue, it is less expensive to use the DMC floss instead of the specialty flosses. Keep in mind that certain specialty flosses do "bleed", whereas you have to soak the floss prior to using the floss to prevent bleeding onto the fabric. DMC floss doesn't have the bleeding problem at all that I'm aware of.
Also, there are "conversion" lists that allow you to convert specialty threads to DMC.

Weeks Dye Works overdyed flosses are about 99% colorfast. I have only found one dark color that was not! It was clearly labelled that it was not. Colorfast means that the color will NOT bleed onto the fabric if it is washed...very important for those of us who are either clumsy (me) or too silly (me) or too hungry or thirsty (me) to keep my projects away from things that stain, like food, drink, dogs, children and friends and neighbors who just have to pick it up with grimey hands/paws and look at it.

I hate the work of npre-washing, rinsing until it runs clear on a white towel, then hangimg to dry overnight. When I want to start a new design, I am like all of us...eager to stitch, not fool with other things! Weeks has offered to have their customer service send me their alternatives to other overdyes...they were very kind to do so and I plan on bugging them.

Since we spend a lot on these, all the others need to do (according to the chemist DH) is to either add can inexpensive mordant (sets the dye) or rinse the heck out of the dyed floss (just like we stitchers have to do at home before we use it). If the floss bleeds, that stain is nearly impossjble to get out (DH again) says because the USA stopped allowing dry cleaners to buy a chemical called P2P because some folks were getting the 55 gallon drums of it to make LOTS of methamphetamine. Now, even the pros can't get a lot of stains out of your fabrics!
