Grateful.....
We're grateful that the flood waters in Myrtle Beach only came halfway up our driveway. We are so much luckier than the other South Carolinians who are currently trying to get their lives back together....

I haven't had a chance to watch the weather channel lately (morning activity, I don't watch TV until late at night again). I had not idea that the flooding is so severe. My son lives in DC, he hasn't mentioned anything but then he rarely does.
Glad to hear that you are okay, Bermuda.

As someone who lost her home (as well as stash, photos, financial records and stability) in Colorado flooding 2 years ago, I dearly feel for all those people out there. We're still not truly "home" yet, but hope to start the rebuilding soon. Prayers for all those affected, and heartfelt sympathy and empathy.

Yes, the Governor of SC was on TV this morning and they are starting with SAFETY FIRST.There is still search-and-rescue being done by First Responders. Governor wants people to stay home at all possible because of the dangers of so much standing water. Nine deaths this far related to this disaster. Many businesses, government offices were closed today. Schools are closed tomorrow as well and there are 550 bridges and roads that need to be assessed by engineers to make sure the soil has not undercut the roadways. Natitonal Guard is in the state, with 7,000 more NG in reserve. Interstates are going to be examined first, then highways. Many people without electricity and drinking water but FEMA and others are bringing in supplies.
Charleston, Georgetown and many of the cities in the LOW country of SC got hit the hardest. North of Myrtle Beach - Little River, Cherry Grove, and Calabash (in NC) - got flooded badly as well. North Myrtle Beach got 15.75 inches of rain from Friday Night thru Sunday.
We got 14.5 inches where we were and the pond near our home overflowed it's banks.
It's a mess but the South Carolinians will endure and win on this....

Stay as dry as you possibly can, Bermuda. I just recently read a first-person account of what's going on in SC. It honestly sounded like a mini version of Armageddon. I'm glad you have so far escaped relatively unscathed.

I'm so glad to hear that you're ok and please take care and be cautious if you drive anywhere. Our weather is so extreme and unpredictable these days, global warming? I know that Texas had her share for a while. I did not know about this weather ordeal in SC and there was nothing about it in our small local news that I remember seeing. I read the news and don't watch it on TV. I am concerned because I have a very elderly friend (over 90 years old) who lives in Greenville, SC with her daughter, and I do not know whether she is in the danger zone or not and pray that she is ok. I will have to call her 1st thing tomorrow.

We have survives several floods and wish the best for those in the Carolinas. Many.people get very upset over our Calufornia earthquakes, yet I seem to weather them okay. But flooding really upsets me no end. I just don't handle it well. We had water in our house 2-3 feet deep, so I know too well how wful.it is to lose your home, but we are still alive and that is what counts. Prayers for all.

Water is still the most destructive force on the planet...nothing like it to put us back in the dark ages. My prayers follow all who go in peril...be safe, be grateful you are alive to miss your stuff, and to bedevil the insurance companies! :)

Just an update on the SC flooding....
First of all, thank you all for your concern for me and DH......for a while this past Saturday, and especially Sunday, I WAS HAVING CONCERNS FOR ME AND DH getting flooded out but we were one of the lucky ones!!! It is so very heartwarming to have such good friends on this website!
From what we've heard, the SC residents in the LOW COUNTRY of SC are still suffering from high waters because the rivers (such as the Black River, PEE DEE River, AND WACAMAW River and the Intercoastal Waterway were still rising as of yesterday and this morning on the news there have been voices concerned as to some of the small dams and dikes failing. The beaches along the ocean took a hit with erosion of the sand dunes.....
DH and I spoke to a few people today in North Myrtle Beach where water was waist high in some of the housing areas; we haven't gone too far from home at this point. But there are people who have already hired contractors to pull out drywall, flooring, etc. One person stated that when her DH came back from moving their car to higher ground, he was walking in water that was waist deep (her husband is 6'2" tall) on his way back to their 2nd floor condo.
I'm sending up prayers for the people in the LOW COUNTRY that they can get their lives back to normal soon and the waters start to recede quickly...
