cross stitch fabric and thread
Over the past 15 years, I have stitched (2) Angel of Hope cross stitch projects. They turned out beautiful. Now that I want to make another one I couldn't find the number of threads that I need to stitch the angel on the instruction sheet. HELP. Also, I stitched the first two angel projects on 16 count bayleaf fabric. This time I was sent 32 count linen brown fabric. Has anyone used this color for the Angel of Hope? It looks so dark. I would appreciate any input. Thank you.

Hi Sharon, I am a Lavender & Lace fan. I have completed several of these designs. I don't think I am understanding your questions about the number of threads to use...I am assuming two threads over two stitches?? Upcoming, I am going to make "The first Angel of Light". I will be working it on 28 count Natural Brown Linen. I put the colors against the linen. I think it will be spectacular because the darker fabric is going to make the white in her dress "POP". That's just me...this is ALL personal preference! Have you put the thread colors against this fabric?? I am curious to know what you think. Carol

Jersey and Tall Sharon,
Is the First Angel of Light that you are going to stitch, is the angel that is facing RIGHT and has a small village in the lower left hand corner? If so, that is the one I completed a while back. It was fun to do but do you remember that I had a "chat" last year about extending the straight stitches for more than 7 squares over the fabric? Well, that is where the straight stitches are located is down by the lower part of the village area so just an FYI, I didn't extend the straight stitches over the fabric for more than 7 squares at a time because of concern that longer straight stitches would get too loose and hang rather than staying straight.
I do believe I did this Angel project on the recommended farbric and on 28 count and it turned out pretty nice. I'm considering doing the "Angel of Light II" where the angel faces the other way....

Bermuda, Yes...in this pattern for The First Angel of Light, she is facing the right. Actually, with the pattern which I have stashed right now, I actually printed out the information you posted about being careful how to proceed with the village at the bottom. Even with a magnifier, the picture they give us with the pattern is so small that it really is hard to see any of those details. Thank you! Carol

Tall Sharon,
If you believe that the fabric for your angel is too dark, follow your instincts! After all, you want to enjoy doing the stitching without struggling with the thought that the fabric is too dark. Do what makes YOU happy and it will turn out wonderful!!!
What count fabric and color did you use for your Lavender and Lace angels? They are beautiful!
I personally will use 32-count fabric for a couple of future large projects I'm going to do but I will do OVER 2 because my cataracts, even with the light magnifier lamp I use, will not allow me to see OVER 1 on 32-count fabric. If I get the cataracts out one of these years, believe me, I'll be insane enough to try 32-count over one!!! :)
I saw one woman who did a project over 1 on 32-count and it was so gorgeous I couldn't peel my eyes off of it. It was a sampler.
Another stitcher I met some years ago had stitched over one on 40-count!!! I just could not believe how she could find the holes!!!
Has anyone out there done a 40-count over 1??? IF you have, I would absolutely love to see it!!!!
