threads
I am new to cross stitch and bought three stitch kits and know that it's going to take a very long time to get them all done. I am concerned that I might run out of certain colours of thread. My question is do these kits give you plenty of extra and do you have to use the thread done to the very last inch each time to make it last.

Hello,

Majority of the time, extra floss is not given in the kits and sometimes people can run out of the floss that comes in the kit. Since most manufacturers use their own brand of floss in their kits, it's nearly impossible to get find a replacement for it on your own. If you need more floss you will have to contact the manufacturer and ask for replacement supplies. They are usually very easy to contact via their websites or by phone but by some of the responses I have heard from other customers, it can take a while for them to respond back to you and even get the replacement supplies to you. I am not sure why that is but that's just what I have heard from other people on this board. Some customers have not had any issues with their kits (such as needing more floss and such) so you may be totally fine and not need to contact them at all?! Hope this information helps somewhat?!

It doesn't hurt to be cautious, though...just makes sense to be as frugal as possible. But replacing the furnished floss with DMC conversions makes even better sense...to me. Opinions are optional on this website. :)

I agree with VCESS. If you haven't started the pattern yet, but are concerned about running out of floss before your project is completed, you can get the conversion chart to DMC floss by going to "cyberstitchers.com". They have conversion charts there. Just look for the conversion chart that says, "Dimensions to DMC"

I agree with the other stitchers. Many years ago I did run out of thread working a Dimensions kit. They did indeed send me more thread, however, it was a "pitifully small" amount!! I had the impression they could "barely spare it". Now, in fairness to Dimensions, I am sure not all kits are short of thread. There are stitchers on this Chat who say they have never had a problem at all and I am glad for them! But, if it were me.....before I begin....I would convert these colors to DMC and go from there. I hope this helps you....this is just my opinion!!
P.S. I like this design.....my husband and I were boaters for twenty-five years. I have a "soft spot" for light houses!!

well I decided it's better to be safe than sorry so I picked up some DMC thread from our local store after carefully cross reference from the chart on cyberstitch. After checking the colours they are not quit the same as Demensions so is it better to use all DMC and forget using any thread out of the kit ? This is what I think I'll do for the main reason I can get more matching thread easily if I run out
To change the subject - I was told by my friend that when you turn 70 which I will this summer you officially become a "" Gezzer "

Gezzer Rod

steampot, I would use just DMC if it were me. As for the "geezer" thing....I don't think it is true at all. I am 70 myself and have been told that 70 is the "new 50". I live in South Jersey not far from the shore. There are lots of "older folks" here who are youthful and do not seem their age. We have many people here who are still "active boaters" into their seventies.

Well said! Myself, I refuse to be labeled by convention...I will look at "geezer" and give it the most positive connotations I can! Reaching that number of years I hope will bring the wisdom and ability to look beyond the wrinkles, bad joints, and aches and pains to expectations of a joy in the new and excitement to welcome the unexpected! Boredom is the enemy, not age! :)

I am for the opinion by bermuda! On a project this large I wouldn't want to chance it. Btw, bermuda, thanks for the tip on the conversion charts. I was doing the conversion by eye; the chart will be much faster!
