Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your message suzanne. This is our design. The original image was included in a collection of antique prints and postcards we purchased the rights to years ago. They were from a collector. We were assured all of these images were out of copyright. Unfortunately there was no reference included for the Artist for this one and at the time of designing the pattern we did extensive searches and could not find the original Artist.
I am very pleased to say after many hours of searching today I have finally located the Artist and painting name. It is called Playing Checkers by the American Artist Harry Roseland. You can see the original coloured painting here http://www.allposters.com.au/-sp/Playing-Checkers-posters_i925257_.htm
I was a little concerned at first as I can see he passed in 1950, so technically his copyright would last to 2020. Upon further investigation online I can see some of his works say public domain and some say copyrighted, it could be as he painted for a postcard company, they may have purchased the rights to some of his images, including this one, and the copyright may be lapsed on these.
After finding his beautiful Artworks we definitely would love to design more of his works, but to be safe we will wait till 2020, to make sure the copyright has expired on all images.
Please let me know if you have any further queries.
Thanks and Best Wishes
