christmas stocking with blank cross-stitch cuff
Hi, I'm looking for a Christmas stocking made of nice fabric, with only a cuff of counted cross-stitch canvas. Anyone know of a source?

mc - I purchased 2 really nice Christmas stockings from Stoney Creek a couple years ago. They were a printed Christmas fabric with a plain white aida cuff on top. Hope this helps.

Christmas stockings made of nice fabric are sold at many places, Pottery Barn ,Frontgate, Williams-Sonoma, etc. What you have in mind is probably a little more difficult to obtain. Do you know how to sew? You could make your own. Even if you find one with a plain cuff you'd have to take it off and sew on the one that you plan to cross stitch. You could design the cuff yourself with the person's name and various seasonal motifs and then attach it to the stocking. Even for a novice this wouldn't be too difficult to do if you play close attention to how the original cuff was attached. Stitching onto the already attached cuff is problematic unless you can use an iron on transfer motif. I stitched a beautiful flower motif on two already assembled accent pillows - it was a nightmare. You can't us a hoop or any other kind of frame and you have to reach in between the layers of fabric, etc. Very frustrating. Have you considered stitching a stocking with a simple motif?

Cheryl, thanks, that's what I was looking for!

Texas Stitcher, I'm not a novice at making cross stitch Christmas stockings -- I have made 9 or 10 over the years from scratch, stitching the entire stocking then building a back of velvet or tapestry fabric and even finishing some with piping. I've also made velvet stockings with cuffs for my kids - but this year I need to make two and I didn't want to get so involved. I'm aware of the problems stitching on a fixed piece of canvas but I'll put up with that for the ease of not having to do the finish work.

Wow! That's a lot of stockings. I understand about not wanting to do a big project. I'm just wondering how one would stitch the cuff without getting totally frustrated. Sorry, mc, I don't have much patience. The first time I prick my finger I get angry and put it aside. Could you detach the cuff and sew it back on after stitching? Just order one and have the name embroidered on it. LOL

The one that's pictured is stitched with 6 strands of floss! That's already a no no. I prefer to use two strands. I wonder if it comes with the backing etc and you then assemble it once it's stitched. Whew!
