stocking size
somewhat confused. If we are working on 18 count linen over two threads the size would be 12+ x 18+. why is it stating 6.4x9.2? I have made more than 12 of these stockings and none are that small.

It has been at least 3 years since I have worked on one and I am not sure of my thinking. Please get back to me so i can place this order correctly.

Thank Yoi so much.

Now you have made me really have to think about this. I think the confusion is in the difference between the perforations in the fabric and the stitches.

18 count fabric has 18 perforations per inch so regardless of how many threads you stitch over you are still going to get 18 perforations per inch. When they count the Width and Height to give you the size of the project they are counting Perforations even though they call it stitched size.

If you calculate 9 stiches stitched over 2 threads on and 18 count fabric you would first divide by 9 and then you would have to multiply by 2 because you are stitching over 2 threads. So you would still come out with the same number as if you had just divided by the perforation count of 18.

I agree that this is a very small stocking. Stocking are not my forte so I couldn't tell you is these smaller ones have become popular since you were last stitching.

I hope this helps some and I haven't totally confused you.

Merry Christmas.

I have cross stitched several stockings from Shepherd's Bush all on 18 count linen over two threads. I get confused with the measurements but you are correct, the stockings are quite large, about 8 inches wide at the top and about 18 inches long. I think the smaller size stated is an error.

I keep thinking about this. If you have 18 stitches and do them on 18 count fabric you have one inch. If you do the same 18 stitches on 9 count fabric (two threads on 18 count) you would have 2 inches.

the write up doesn't say over 2 - so that small size is correct for 18 count over 1. It will be a bigger stocking stitched over 2. Hope that helps.

My mistake, I'm sorry about that. The description does say over 2, but by the picture it just says 18ct. The finished size given is right for over 1. Not sure why they'd be so confusing and put over 2 in the description and not give the right size then. Someone goofed for sure. Again, sorry about my mistaken first reply too.

Ok I have done a little more thinking about this stocking. Looking at other stockings by this designer I think this one is part of a garland set of stockings which is why it is so small.

If you take a look at the picture the stocking is sitting on a CD and extends just slightly over the edge. A CD measures about 5 and a half inches. The toe extends past the edge of the CD. So I do believe that the measurements are correct.

I bet it is as cute as can be at that size. Plus if you haven't done one for a while it would be a quicker project than the larger size.

ok if you look under descriptions...it states that the pattern is worked over two threads. Yhis is not rocket science ladies. if you are working on 18 count linen over two threads you are going to get 9 stitches per inch. if I am getting 9 stitches per inch and it is 115 stitches wide, you divide 115 by 9 and that is how big the stitch area across will be. works the same way in the other direction. as for the lady that wants it to be a garland, it is not a CD it is a book the stocking is on.

Basically the reason for all this discussion is if you follow the directions on the pattern and try to make it using your yardage calculator you will not have enough material.

Hello,

I do apologize for the confusion ladies. I can explain what is happening here and I have taken off the sizing dimensions and entered 18ct. Linen over 2 in the fabric description.

Our website (at the current moment) will only give sizing dimensions for 18ct as an over 1 type of stitching. I do not have the capability to change it to an "over 2" because our system is not set up for me to do that.

When I am doing pattern descriptions and supplies, I try my best to give as much information as possible for you all and I must not have read the "over 2" part or I just skipped over it and I just left the 18ct. Linen part on there and in turn, our system will do the sizing dimensions as "over 1". I do apologize for any confusion and I have taken off the sizing dimensions for right now.

We are currently working on a ton of new things for the ECS Website and I know this sort of issue is one that is going to be fixed and changed. Hope this clears things up and again, I apologize for the error on my part.
