The background is not stitched. The chart is just for the butterfly and it's done in full cross stitches. There is not any backstitching in this design. As for the background that is shown on the cover, I am not sure if the designer used a specific colored fabric and stitched the butterfly on that or just used a colored background via a computer program to get that effect?! The leaflet doesn't state anything about fabric except that it's the stitchers choice on what to use.

Very pretty butterfly. How is your mother's eyesight. There are 64 different colors. She will be changing floss frequently. Many of the colors will be very close in shading and she may be challenged. I know that I would be.
