Dyeing Aida cloth
Since I can't find a medium blue adia cloth, I was wondering if it can be dyed.

Yes. Just be sure that it is 100% cotton Aida. First wash it by hand. If you machine wash, you will get lots of the edges hanging down and knotting.
Before dyeing wash in warm water with a little bit of dishwashing liquid, like Dawn. Hang to dry.
Follow the directions on your dye. Not dark enough? Save the dye pan, pot or bucket full of the remaining dye and start the process again, from the beginning of using the dye. You leave it in a little bit longer. Rinse. You might want to "set" the dye by adding some regular cider vinegar (it looks clear) in the bottle. Be prepared to do it over and over again. Our eyes see
seven million colors, so the color you want may not be reproduceable with dyeing...

Wouldn't that be white vinegar? Isn't the cider vinegar kind of yellowy? ☺

If you begin mixing dyes, you may want to keep track of amounts and times. ☺

Anybody know a brand of 100% cotton Aida? 😊

Out hete in California (that's here in the slightly populated upper left corner of a map of California), the cider vinegar is clear, no yellow. But...unless the states all decide we nedd a Federal law that unifies food labelling, we get what we get.
Let's face it, the FDA spends a lot on Drug enforcement, but that fails. Just last week, they had to inform us that of the
23,000 applications to grow marijuana in our very rural and
forested county, only about 800 were approved. Why are so many left to be illegal grows? Somebody pays for cops in camo, helicopters, 4-wheel drive SUVs, motel rooms, etc.
That does NOT include FOOD. Oh yeah, my question is..when out shopping, has anyone in this chat ever see an FDA inspector, even in the meat department? We used to see that purple stamp on meat of all kinds. Have not seen one in a long time!

Probably investigated and found that the purple dye was poisonous and making 2-year-olds glow in the dark. 😮

Right you are, VCESS. I catch hell trying to get my shopping done and don't have time to look for an inspector. I thought all that took place behind the scenes. I am just too trusting.

sjs, that sounds like a lot of trouble and work. There are so many sources where you can order from, I'd launch another search if I were you. You have to be so careful when using dye. I've heard some horror stories about subsequent loads of wash being ruined, counter tops and sinks stained, the list goes on. It would never occur to me to dye anything deliberately. I'm messy and don't always follow instructions too carefully. That's why I don't bake!

SjS, I saw something called "fabric medium" (Joanne's) used in dyeing fabric...might help make it easier. You might look it up...☺
