Cross Stitch chart
I am totally new at this and would like to purchase a Floral Alphabet cross stitch chart. I am wondering if the fabric comes blank, or is the pattern already printed on it?

If you click on the picture the description shows that it is a pattern only and you have to purchase threads and material separately to compete the picture. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Deirdre! I saw that I have to purchase the materials. I guess I was asking if the pattern is printed on the cloth that I would purchase. If not, how would I get the pattern onto the material? Is this a counted cross stitch pattern ... that I would be buying? Thnx

Hello,

Yes, this design is for counted cross stitching. So you would be stitching the design onto the fabric using that method of cross stitching. If you are looking for projects that have the design already stamped onto the fabric, click on Products at the top of the page and then Stamped Projects. That area of our website will just have the stamped items listed there. Everything else on the website is for counted cross stitching. Another way to tell what a product is, is to look at the Product Type that is located to the right of the picture of the product. If it states Product Type: Cross Stitch Pattern then it's a counted cross stitch pattern and if it states Product Type: Stamped Kit, then it's a kit that will contain all of the items you need to complete the design shown and the fabric will be stamped. Hope this information helps :)

If you are "totally new" to stitching this is not a good project to start with. This is quite large and has lots of color changes. You need to start with something much simpler. If you want a project that has the pattern stamped on the fabric, follow Kristi's advice. If you want to learn "counted" which usually looks nicer when you are finished, find a much smaller project. For your first project, choose something that would be smaller than 5 x 7 inches and less than four or five different flosses. There are plenty of kits available that would have all the necessary supplies and include instructions. Counted cross stitch is really pretty easy to learn. If the instructions confuse you look at a YouTube video which would be easier than trying to explain on this forum.

Nancye, I agree with what you are trying to tell her and you tell it with excellent clarity, but a 5x7 with 5 colors would bore anybody to death within minutes....Most of us get into this because of color! Lots and lots of color...wouldn't something with 10-12 be more interesting, give practice with stitches, beginning and ending floss, and satisfy with a completed and finished project? Not arguing, just clarifying... :)

Agree to disagree. On a smallish project five or six colors are plenty. A few more colors would be okay if they are distinct and different) My current project is a HAPPY FROG ON A LILY PAD. Stitch count is 74 x 54 (5.3" x 3.9") There are seven different colors. There are four shades of green including DMC 905, 906, and 907. Driving me a little crazy. I spent three hours "frogging" this cute frog a couple days ago. My goal is to finish the last three rows of water (#3845 today).

KIYA -- keep us posted on what you decide to do. No such thing as right or wrong; just personal preferences.

I see in the description you can choose to do one letter only instead of the whole alphabet which might not be as bad for a newbie. Just a thought.

If you like the whole pattern and want to do it as a sampler picture, treat each letter as a mini project. Start in the left hand corner instead of the middle and if you find you don't like doing counted cross stitch then you have a letter A for a monogram for someone. Then sell the rest of the supplies. Just some thoughts.
