Framing suitable for outside?
I would love to stitch this and actually hang it on my screened porch. It would not be subject to rain or direct sunlight, but I'm worried about humidity. Is there a way to frame it that it would be more protected?

good morning saintsgal! Well, I have mixed emotions about this subject. I have never stitched anything that would be on a porch. The best way to protect the design would be to have it framed with glass over it. There is a "non reflective" glass that is available. I used it about ten years ago, however, it easily shows your fingerprints if you touch it. I had to use special "electronic wipes" for it. Also...in South Jersey it is very humid in the summers. I have been on tours of very old homes here. Once in a while we see a framed picture WITH GLASS which has rotted threads underneath. We were told that is because of the humidity getting under the glass with no way to dry and it eventually destroys the threads. I will be most interested to see what our other stitchers think about this issue. I am sure someone has more experience than I do with this!!

Good morning to you too, Jersey! That's exactly what I was afraid of! I'm in Florida, and we have more than our share of humidity. I'm trying to visualize some type of "shadow box" concept, where moisture can't get into the back of it, but I just can't figure out how that would work (or look). I'm hoping too that someone weighs in with experience with this. Thank you!

Maybe that's why they began framing without glass...all damp would normally disappate. Much easier to deal with dust, smoke, effects of light by cleaning...no rot. :) just supposing... :)

Interesting idea, VCESS - I actually never thought of framing it WITHOUT glass! I see where that might help the dampness problem. I'm a little worried about it getting dirty - every time my husband mows, my porch needs a scrubbing. (So, I can just bring it in when he mows, right??) It just seemed a shame to me to not put this on the porch if I worked it. Thanks!

Hmmm...maybe some kind of enclosed hutch...that the door could be closed and opened for display?

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered it! I couldn't help it - it was on sale! (That's how I'm rationalizing it anyway!) I'll think of what to do with it later. Ha ha! At least this time when hubby asks if I have a place for it, I can be honest and say that I have the perfect place for it!

If there is a window on your porch is it possible to hang it behind the window so looking in the window you would be able to read it? The back would be toward the room but be able to see from outside.

Sales are great, so "encouraging"...but I get laughed at for spending $4 to save $.90...but, don't worry, I have an appropriate response to that, too! :)

Thank you, Sara Dale - I do have such a window! The inside has blinds, so I don't think it would even be noticeable from the inside. Never thought of that! VCESS, I'm guilty too! Usually, my particular weakness is if something in my Wish List pops up on sale - then I feel like I simply MUST buy it and not miss the sale price. Not this time, however. I had not ever seen this pattern before, but just on impulse had to have it! I would love to hear your rationale for saving $.90?!?

I just realized I saved $.90, and shipping was $3.94! I found that hilarious, VCESS! Oh well, I am sure I'll get my money's worth enjoying the project. I always do! It's something only stitchers would understand...
