Fabric - Wartime Gathering
I see this project calls for a 14 ct Aida White Wichelt Imports size 21 x 36. I would like to do it on Linen instead. Would I order 28 ct White Wichelt Linen size 1 yard at 27"? Would that cover this project adequately? Thank you for your help. Priscilla Booth

Are you planning on stitching over 2? If so that should be correct for the fabric. You can always check your fabric size with the cross stitch calculator ( web site https://yarntree.com/java/xstitchcal.htm ). You put in your number of stitches - width and height -, the fabric count, then the number of threads each cross stitch covers (i.e. over 1, over 2 etc.) plus how many inches extra fabric you want on each side, then it will calculate it for you. You just fill in the blanks and it works beautifully. Good luck. This should be a beautiful piece.

Thank you for your help. I do plan on going over two. Love the look you get with linen and 28 ct going over two. Love a challenge too which I'm sure this one will be. Thanks again.

That is going to be a beautiful piece. Reminds me of Gone with the Wind. As you are working on it, maybe you could show pics. Have fun. Pam

This looks to be a cover all project (no background fabric showing). Why are you using the linen instead of Aida, when it won't even show? Unless . . . you just prefer to stitch on linen fabric or you plan on framing the picture with a border of the fabric showing all around. I have only used Aida cloth and I would probably find myself miscounting when going over two threads for linen. Just don't want you to be disappointed when all of the linen is covered up.
Yes, going over 2 threads on 28 ct would be the same size as going over 1 on 14 ct.
Either way, it will be a beautiful picture when completed. Have fun!
