Perforated Paper
I am wondering how you cross stitch using perforated paper. I understand that you only use this for ornaments and such but have no idea how to go about using it. Thanks for any help.

Are you doing a kit or a pattern? To find your center, I put an X from corner to corner and where they cross is your center. I use 3 strands of floss because the holes are bigger then fabric. When i am done stitching, i cut out the design 1 row outside my stitching. If it is an ornament, I back with felt or fabric after I make a hanger.

Good Luck!

I am just giving you a second post. What was said by the previous stitcher is spot on. A lot of people use the paper and add beads to make it really decorative look for the ornaments. My grandmother had a cross stitch on paper framed. I asked her about it and she said her sister had stitched it for her when they were girls. Pam

You can use it for a picture, too. The sheets are 9" x 12" and come in many great colours. Mill Hill also sells the frames specifically designed to hold a 6" x 6" picture. Their kits are good, containing all the instructions, DMC floss, and beads. Even needles! Try one! Then, you can re-use the pattern using the DMC floss numbers listed... or change up and try something different! Happy stitching!!!!

Momcat, never thought about reusing the pattern for a regular cross stitch on fabric!

I'm doing my first perforated paper, an ornament/fridge magnet. Coming up from the bottom be prepared to have your needle drop back through the hole. I finally realized I need to use a finger on the back until I can grab the needle. Learning curve 😊. Fun to do and very cute!

I did bands of snowmen for extended family GKs on aida...no beads...for their backpacks...liked those bands better than the ornaments..put their initials between the snowmen...a big hit. 😊

Thought at the time, some of those ornaments would make great luggage tags. For lunch boxes maybe? 😊

I have been stitching mostly on perforated paper for YEARS now. It is SO easy to frame, no stretching needed. As long as you aren't trying to do split stitches, it can do everything.

Beth that is beautiful. What is the pattern?

Wow Beth, that is spectacular. I’ve never heard of anybody doing that before. Maybe I’ll give it a try on a small design.

Wow, Beth! I had no idea that humble perforated paper could look so magnificent! My idea is to stitch a small ornament and then glue it to a "luggage tag" style of a gift tag. My heart might break though if I see someone throwing out the tag. I'm hoping, one, that the process will work, and two, that people will keep the tag and use it as an ornament.
