Hi Laurie,
Welcome to the ECS chat board!
Did you tap on the ‘View Item’ button that is below the picture? It does call for using a 14-count Afghan for the Afghan project.
You and Pamelastine are thinking correctly- if using a linen for example a 28-count linen, you would just divide the
28 by 2 = 14 count aida. They pattern sizes will come out to be the SAME size, it is just you are stitching ‘over 2’ squares on the 28-count as compared to stitching ‘over 1’ on the 14-count aida.
You can use this method figuring out any fabric counts you want to use. Example: if I have an pattern that calls for using 36-count linen (over 2), I can use a 18-count aida (36 divided by 2 = 18) and Stitch ‘over 1’ square and get the same size on the 18 count.
Hope I didn’t confuse the issue for you...but if you are somewhat new, it’s always good to know this ‘principle’ to open up a whole new world of using different fabric counts.
TIP: to assist you in figuring out different COMPLETED pattern sizes and size of fabric you need to purchase, including extra fabric for mounting and framing, there is a fabric calculator here on ECS, but I use the fabric calculator on ‘crossstitch.com’ or ‘yarntree’ to have a bit more freedom on adjusting my ‘extra fabric’ needs for mounting and framing. The fabric calculators are FUN to use because you can just plug in the different numbers of pattern sizes and fabric counts and it will do the calculations for you and you can experiment as to completed pattern sizes to make them larger or smaller. :)
