A crewel needle is used in embroidery and you can find these at Jo-Ann's, Michaels, Amazon, just to name a few places. Hope this helps!

A crewel needle is a sharp needle with a medium length eye to accommodate heavier threads (originally, wool). The shaft is a medium length and slightly slimmer than the eye. It's used in any embroidery that requires a sharp needle...on fabrics other than evenweave. You choose the size to accommodate your thread. There is a LOT of confusion about needles and their specific uses. Most folk use whatever they have, but like any tool, some needles make the job easier than others. 😊

A crewel needle is the kind with a very thin eye (that is impossible to thread) and a very sharp point, which pricks the finger and gets blood all over the crisp white aida cloth in your project ... oh, wait, maybe that's a "cruel needle"? Anyway - I have LOTS of them!
